All cracked up

That's just plain wrong on the part of Minelab. There are Minelab coils from the nineties that still have good cables. They had a big batch of bad cable and they should replace yours.

This happened to an 8" tornado coil I had so I started using this stuff called Vinelyx to coat the cable and I also rub the top of the coil with it. Its supposed to repair dried vinyl which is the problem I think. Time will tell if it works.
I agree, the coils on the older BBS coil including the grey cabled coils (coinsearch)are still supple and work well with no cracks. Minelab got a bad batch of coil cable for sure..,,,,

This is how the wires looked. Loose wire came from the coil I repaired. Other coil in picture to be repaired later.

IMHO!! MINELAB has the ABSOLUTE W-O-R-S-T Customer SVC. Of Any of the Major Metal Detector MANUFACTURERS!! That's why I STOPPED Buying or Supporting the NEW
MINELAB Co., within (2) yrs. after they Bought that Co. from the Original Owners!! Do Yourself a FAVOR, and BUY some NEL Coils from GOLD DIGGER Detector Sales
(Forum SPONSOR) because they have a MUCH LONGER Warranty, and appear to be BETTER MADE, and Especially CHEAPER Pricing!! BEST of LUCK, Les Robinson.

My cable also split about 6 inches from where it enters the pod,, oh yeah,, it did it the day before leaving for Daytona Beach. So I had to operate right then and it was not too bad, just soldering the cable to the board was a bite and being careful to drill out the hole where the cable enters the pod end. This was on a 800 excal with the blue headphones. everything back in place and dont forget to re epoxy where the cable enters the pod for waterprofing. By looking at the cable im sure its going to happen again and I also wipe down my cables on all 3 of my excals about 4 times a year with Armorall. And take the time to take the units apart from the stright shafts and clean up everything, It pays to have a clean machine.

on your part. glad it was on the pod end. I to am a clean freak and very protective of my machines also. I only use the Dow III or equivalent type on seals and cables. You are right on taking the time to clean things up, good advise.
