Comcat,i used to run a sov gt,i never hunt in all metal, and i think i am a pretty decent coin and relic hunter,i would rather just cut disc down real low before i would ever hunt in all metal,i guess because it depends how much junk is in the ground for one thing. You can not hardly find a spot to ground balance a detector here without it going off every twelve inches or so,you think i am going to dig the whole dam city up in all metal, the guy's that say they hunt in all metal must be in the middle of no were!,i always get a smoother signal on non ferrous targets in the disc mode anyway,if i go for gold which i plan to do in the mountains i will hunt some in all metal other than that not for me man,the Sov is deeper in disc anyway, later dude.Oh my personnal opinion as of right now, this might change, but i have never relied on a id meter.Charles.

thanks charles, that makes sense,,,i was gonna ask if the explorer s.e. was a better machine ,,but maybe this is the wrong forum to start raggin the gt,,which is an awsome piece of kit in any event,,,,,but wojasay??? rgds comcat,,p.s. i have a gt,,it just seems to be the same tones on a lot of targets,,its givin me a pain,,,i recently installed my own conversion in this sucker to switch between the multis and a monotone,,,thing is it makes great long tones on large iron ,,but also large aluminium cans and some thick coins,,,(but not as long),,so thinkin of some sort of numerical indication,,,,wojathink,,,,,let me know ,,,,it will save me ,,probably a fortune not buying the wrong stuff,,rgds ,,,comcat:ukflag:

iv owned 4 Sovereign's and for me the disc mode set at 0 is the best way to go.i see no diff in depth from all metal to disc.and i can tell the diff of a dime to penny to quarter and a nickle just by the tone.i no longer dig the high tones as i dont want clad.i only dig low tone (nickle) and lower.Gold N Silver fall in there.i hunt 100% on the salt water beach and of all the 80+ detectors iv owned ,nothing performes as well as the Sovereign. My Excal ll is as good but cant change the coil to a larger coil.i run the S12 coil and WOT coil on my GT.good luck.

so you must be missing alot of those as well most smaller silver jewelry. silver rings are right up near the top of the pulltab range clear up to the quarter(180) reading depending on their size. sounds like your missing alot just digging nickel and lower.

comcat I use both modes depending on how many targets Im finding. If its bleak and Im not finding much I will switch over to all metal as I find its deeper. If there is an abundance of targets I will go with disc and dig everything up to zinc penny but stop there, that would be 176 on the 180 scaled meter. this eliminates dimes, copper pennies and quarters for me and lets me extend my time chance of finding some gold. Im pretty good at IDing bottlecaps so I dont bother with that sound and as well iffy iron sounds that are trying to break through.

Here is one of the reasons I dont dig just the "round" sounding/ring/coin sized targets while beach hunting. 14k, 55.5 grams found in the wet sand with one of my sovs.

and yes, I use the meter often(digimeter is great), I would say one of the best accessories for the sov, highly accurate.
