Almost a slam:detecting:

Haven't posted for awhile, got major remodeling going on & have to be here more than normal in case they need something. But yesterday the owner of the old fairgrounds that I hunted last fall & this spring called & said he had the corn out. So this morning I headed for the corn field. We had about 3 in of rain this last week & it muddy! Picked out a row & started moving slow. Hunting cornstalks is pretty tough for me, trying to keep the coil as low as possible. I was using the 4.5x7 coil, it worked fairly well between the rows. First coin I found was the seated, then a nickel. Got to other end of field stepped to next row and headed back, Found the barber & the other nickel in that row. Now these rows are about 300 yards long so Im not getting one after the other. It takes a lot of time. I finished up the hunt by where the race track use to be, cause it was close to my truck & I was tired. Worked that area for an hour & got the 2 mercs. I was happy I had a trifecta but liked to have a slam. It would of have to been a bust for a slam cause it was turned into cropfields they say in 1935 but the newest coin I've pulled out of there is a 1920, oldest 1838 dime. I was worn out so I called it a day

Real nice coinage there, Stubbs!! :clapping:

Congrats on your trifecta!! It's amazing you didn't find any wheaties or Injuns!

Dan I've found some wheats & injuns in the past but not a one yesterday. All the coins I find are real shallow, 2 to 3 in. all the pennies I've found are in horrible shape. Only deep coins were the 2 Morgans I found. they were probably 10+ in

Who cares about Rosey's when you are getting coins like that! That's a great hunt in my book. Sounds like a primo spot. Well done!

Nice digs Butch:thumbup:

An old site like that is a blessing...my favorite kind....one that has a chance of yielding some super old silver.

The thrill is always there to have a chance of poppin' one out.

A few years back I was finding more seated than Roosies and missed the slam a dozen times or more. Not lately though. I imagine muddy cornfields would be lots of work.

I would be thrilled with that hunt stubbs1. You will get the roosevelt dime next time.

Very nice outing.

pretty darn close. wtg on the finds.

I'd rather have that second Merc over a Rosie any day! That Seated dime looks to be in amazing shape - pls post close/up of front and back! Great job!
