Alpha 2000 Question/Questions

Sure don't read much about the Alpha. I will be in the market for a new detector come tax return time as I sold my detector to help out with Christmas. I have used alot of detectors over the years mainly Tesoro's but might be interested in giving the Alpha a shot. Looks to be be a good little machine for the price.

What I don't understand is what digital eleven-segment target ID system means. Does it have a target ID # such as nickels 30 dimes 50 quarters 70 for example. I was thinking the Alpha only reads out the depth by numbers.

Also not sure what patented Ground Trac ground balance control means. I am guessing that the Alpha has a preset factory ground balance at the price they are asking for it.

And what does double-filter discrimination mode actually mean in simple terms. Thanks & Happy New Year everyone. Steve.

Don't know where you got that info. Steve. The Alpha has 8 segments and preset ground balance.

Hi Steve,
The Alpha is a preset ground balance unit. It has three tones: Iron, alum, and coin. It has four controls: Disc, Sens, Notch, and Volume. It has eight target categories: Iron, Foil, Nickel, Alum, Zinc, Dime, Quarter, 50c. You can progressively Disc out target category's Iron up through Zinc. You can Notch in or out any target category below the Dime Category. The depth readout goes to 9". The sensitivity setting has 5 settings. There are 9 volume settings. Each setting changes the tonal qualitys a little. At low volume settings the high tone is inaudible, kind of like a high tone notch out. At higher settings the tones are very robust. It has quite a bit of power and the signal is not modulated. Deep signals sound the same as shallow signals. Once it reaches the end of its range it goes quiet. Very easy to pinpoint with, very easy to hunt with. I bought one for a buy and try and now have it for sale on the classifieds.

Look at fisher F2 with bonus 4 inch coil or you need to got up a level to the Teknetics DELTA, You need the pinpoint button in the center of the control panel so your thumb sits right over it.

I have owned a couple of F2's, good little machines. I owned a Delta but didn't have it long enough to pass judgement on it. I am like Mr. Hillis, I have an itch to try a Alpha for some reason. I see that Mike didn't keep his very long though. Steve.

Hi Steve,
I just wanted to try one out. Just like I did the F2 and the Ace 250. Kind of redundant to keep it as I can put the 5" coil on my Omega and do the same thing.
