Aluminum Can Challenge

I was on the Deepers 6 web site and saw various detectors being air tested on a soda can. So folks give us your best machine and reading on a soda can. One reading nice and audible and the 2nd barely heard. Can your prize machine do at least 24"???

John,
24" is not a very large depth. That depth is not uncommon on a gold ring. It's certainly no problem for a soda can.
Bill

Sorry , Mr Bill I do not believe you to detect a gold ring at 24" in ground ,perhaps a small fading in AIR test ok!!!!!!!!!!! Keep the credibility of this forum , because soon some guys tell us to detect a coin at one meter ....

A good sized gent's gold ring at 24 inches in wet saltwater sand conditions by a pulse induction machine with a +- 15 inch coil is not anything beyond possibilities. Many a PI machine has proven this to be so. I had one of Eric's Goldscan machines doing some testing in highly iron mineralized (inland) conditions and dug an average-sized aluminum beer can at a measured 35 inches with a good signal. Air tests with the same machine would detect an iron cannon shot (approx 4 inch diameter) at well over 3 feet with no trouble.
Unlike most VLF-IB type machines, a good PI can often gain significant advantage in target range due to certain types of ground conditions that act as a sort of "carrier" for the induced field from the coil. That's one of the advantages in how PI works (RX in a relatively silent atmosphere) in comparison to the constant signal noise that a VLF-IB has to deal with.
Just a thought.....

Sorry if you can't accept that. They are a few PI detector's out there that can do this. The problem is you have been playing with the hobby ones, and not the professional ones. Although nothing is cast in stone, the Aquastar, the Deepstar can do it, and the Goldquest is real close to it if not actual. Now we are generalizing here, nothing is gospel in metal detecting depth, too many variables to contend with. We certainly could set up a condition that one could not detect a ring at 12", but on a average, you stand a real good chance doing it with the Aquastar.
Unlike VLF/IB units that suffer depth loss from air test to in ground test, the PI

The deepers 6 unit made some incredible or credible claims in regards to several machines tested with the porverbial soda can. Check it out at www.metaldetection.net I found this the most credible of all the alternate PI sites and products. The problem is no supporting info so who can you trust??? Mr. Bill and Eric Foster that's who. The aluminum can at 24" was a mark in MINERALIZED soil which I forgot to add. Most any decent machine can do a can at 24" air testing. My Excalibur could at 14" with discrimination and 24" no problem in all metal.
It appears that the barrier for a can is about 30" in soil. Some European and Mexican PI's will push that mark to the 40". The 2 boxes don't fair any better. So it now boils donw to who to believe and which machine could have the best potential for 40" on a can...Deepstar perhaps with a 15" or 40" coil???

If some of you guys are having trouble at 24 inches detecting a soda can ...I'd love to know where you guys are detecting, coz there'd be lots of gold left. lol.
I can get a clear signal for a soda can at chest height (5ft in quiet ground) with a Minelab SD2000 hooked up to a 24 inch mono coil (my design) -no probs.
