Always Be Prepared (keeping a detector in your vehicle)

One thing I learned when I was in the Marines (and back in my boy scout days as well), was the importance of always being prepared. Have you ever driven past a promising site with some extra time to kill and wished you had your metal detector with you? Or been at a barbecue or football game where somebody looses a ring and kicked yourself for a missed "hero of the day" opportunity?

I try to keep my Delta 4000 behind the bench seat of my pickup every day. It is in an area that is protected from being bounced around and I usually tie a solid color (not transparent) plastic bag around the electronics to keep prying eyes from seeing what it is (most people outside of these forums don't have a clue anyway) and it adds some water/spilled drink protection. A Garrett Pro Pointer is in the glove box. I always have some kind of a screwdriver aboard so if I don't have my digging tools I can still get by.

Do any other forum members do this? I don't recommend keeping an F75, Etrac, or (God forbid) a GPX-5000 all the time, unless you can financially handle its' loss or have some great insurance policy. If my Delta gets stolen I'm out less than $300 (yet it's still a very capable machine). I'd love to hear what others keep with them in order to stay prepared.

I keep my detector, pro pointer, digging tool and pouch in the jeep pretty much all of the time

I always carry one. Whites coinmaster 4000D S3 . I use as a old back up. An always out of sight of any eyes that may pass my car. Is the best way. I would never leave even my old detector in open view of someone passing by. Windows are not cheap, then add on the loss of your detector. If nothing else use a large trash bag to cover it up. No one ( I think ) would want to break into your car or truck for a garbage bag. Jim

I have kept a Old Detector in my Van ( cars) for years.. Just for things like you mentioned.. I have never had a heat related problem with the Old clunker detectors. But, have had a Cold related problem. Condensation formed under the screen glass...... Wrapping it in a blanket cured that issue....Last few years I haven't due to the high volume of theft from vehicles. I live in a very nice neighborhood, and the theft still occures often. Mostly from roaming juveniles who have nothing better to do !!
