"AMAZING DISCOVERY" how to get better depth on the Musketeer advantige:surprised:

Gunnar MN

New member
I was out doing some testing whith my musketeer advantige , and what i have found amazed me , now i have been detecting for 3 years yes i am a gren horn, Now i have ocasianaly hear people say to get better depth you want the ground balance just a bit positive that is when you lower the coil you just get a sound i found that this is tru in all metal whith the musketeer just a bit positive i got noticable more depth and i lose depth when raising the coil i get a signal negitive and whats worse if im hunting whith the ground balance just a hair negitive that is when you raise the coil you get a signal i lose depth and worse when you start diging the hole it fools you into thinking somethings down thear BUT IN DISCRIMINATION """ its the oposite yes thats right i was a bit bummed out when i would ground balance in threshold all metal then switch to disc mode and the signals were bad they did not have that nice ring to them but made a sound like a radio shuting off ssssip ssssssip sssip so i set the ground balance wile in all metal just a bit negitive and OOOHH what a difrence that made now the signal was clear and giving a nice sound vhhh vhhh why had no one told me this so i will make a statement that you can test on your own to improve depth and clarity of signal on other detectors If you hunt in threshold all metal set the ground balance just slitly posotive not nutral when you lower thecoil you will just strart to get a sound not to much YOU WILL GET BETTER DEPTH now if you are hunting in discrimination set the ground balance just slitly negitive as you rais the coil turn the ground balance just untill you start to get a sound and stop YOU WILL GET BETTER DEPTH AND CLEAR ER SIGNALS comon talk to me

Gunnar you will find out things as you go along that no one has told you.Your tests could change if you go to a new patch of ground.Did you go down on this forum to Some Carolina History, some of those relics were found with a Minelab Musketeer,i told you it was a great detector, built like a tank right?.I was also saying that i think you should hunt in higher disc when you go into a hunt site, clean out all the old coins first, then as you go back cut the disc back to get the missed nickels and rings.I will try what you said about the ground balance you could be 100% right.I have heard of this before but the book says to ground balance a certain way and that is what i do.If you cut the Advantage disc right were the soda pull tabs break out, when you go to a area to hunt roughly 70% of what you get will be a coin.I have to take a break hunting down south, because of mosquitoes, heat, hurricanes will be heading this way and i have to be prepared to jet, packed up.I have a straight shaft i am rigging on the advantage, the 15" Wot coil is great,i love it.I also hunt with a Tesoro Vaquero and Tejon,That covers the frequencies pretty good 5,14,17 KHz.Good luck Gunnar hunting with the Advantage,i seen were you found another token at your spot, that is great, the musky will do it,it will go deep.Later dude.

...mentioning another type forum here.
But, I started a new yahoo user group dedicated to the Minelab Musketeers.
Hope to make it a viable database of useful information for those that want to learn more
about their Musky.
Anyone interested can join and add info, files, etc.

Gunnar,
Great stuff, maybe you and your fried should do a video on how to correctly ground balance the unit. It would be great!

Thanks,
Best Regards,
Steve

Yea Gunnar

Just tune your detector for the ground conditions, and you will get sharper and more crisp signals on stuff that been in the ground for years. On freshly buried targets..........all bets are off !

Some models, such as White's Classic series NEED to have a spot-on to slightly positive GB in All Metal for the Disc. mode to function well and not false from a too-negative GB in most moderate to higher mineralized environments.

Some makes/models (such as most Tesoro's) will actually benefit from a somewhat negative GB (in All Metal) due to the way the Disc. mode is tied in with the All Metal GB setting. I've commented on this on a number of occasions on several forums, especially those related to Tesoro's. That's why I stress "Power Balancing" a motion-based discriminator in the Discriminate mode rather than in All Metal. no, you can't do this with all of them, but Yes, you can do it with many.

Glad to see you're working at learning and mastering your Minelab Everyone ought to spend ample time afield learning the strengths and weaknesses of every detector they own and/or use.

Keep at it.

Monte

I will try to make a vidio , nex time my frend brings his flip vidio cam over and do a demonstration . also i hope to get back out to do some hunting this week as i was pulling poison ivy all week clearing some ground only got a little on my wrist not to bad It just thrills me to be able to hit a coin at 9" deep in this anoka sand whith a good signal but i still miss my compadre -- some day
