March 30

During the Civil War, after issuing his Emancipation Proclamation,
President Abraham Lincoln set a National Day of Humiliation, Fasting
and Prayer, MARCH 30, 1863, stating:

"It is the duty of nations...to own their dependence upon the
overruling power of God, to confess their sins...with assured hope
that genuine repentance will lead to mercy...

The awful calamity of civil war...may be but a punishment inflicted
upon us for our presumptuous sins."

Lincoln continued:

"We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven...

We have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has
ever grown.

But we have forgotten God.

We have forgotten the gracious Hand which preserved us in peace, and
multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly
imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these
blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our
own."

Lincoln concluded:

"Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too
self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving
grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!

It behooves us then to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to
confess our national sins and to pray for...forgiveness."

Interesting stuff!

I agree we do tend to push GOD to the side. We need to fast and pray all the time.

Those words were written long ago, but they speak of where we as a nation are now. We have "In God We Trust" on our coins, but do we really. This nation of ours seems like a modern Sodom and Gomorrah. No matter where you turn you see evil and trash. Can't even watch a decent TV show anymore. As my pastor told me Sunday, people just don't have a desire for or a heart for God anymore. Just like Sodom and Gomorrah, God will run out of patience with us one day, and we will pay the price for our wickedness. If you study the Book of Revelation, you will notice that the United States is no where to be seen in the last days. Not saying we will be totally destroyed by then, but we will be but a speck in the worlds' eyes. Thanks Pete for posting those wise and true words.

Thanks, Pete, for posting and reminding us where we are as a nation, today, like it was in Lincoln's time! I really like Bill Federer....he is from my area....and ran against Richard Gebhart for the office of U.S. Representative, but lost due to the lies and tricks of that Liberal Democrat! He is finally out of office and I praise God for that! Bill is on Christian radio a lot and has written a lot of good books and etc about our Nation being of God when it was first founded! May the Lord have mercy upon us and save those who will be saved and come quickly, Lord Jesus!
 God Bless! Betty
