My attempt at an air test between the Garrett ace 350 and the X-terra 705. My first video ever and its shows lol :rage:. hopefully it may help a fellow newb....

I just bench tested my XT-70 with its stock coil and it hit exactly an inch less each on the coins that you tried on your XT-705. The only way I could match your depth was with the 10.5" DD MF coil. Have always heard that the XT-705 was about an inch deeper than the XT-70 , guess this pretty much confirms it, at least with my detector. No doubt there are some 70's out there which will match the depth of a 705, just not mine. Have a Safari coming tomorrow, am looking forward to seeing what it's 11" Pro coil will bench test out to. Of course we all know that the only thing that really matters is a detector's in-ground depth.

I never would have thought that..... Can you post some results on the Safari...... Also I just got the DD 7.5 I will try and compare latter today.....

OK I am very impressed with my new DD 7.5 coil. I was just fooling around in my back yard and I got a faint hit showing max depth on the box..... I decided to dig it and I kept digging and digging and nothing... finally i get down to about 18 inches Thats right i freaking measured it when i was done 18 inches and the was a metal saddle that you would use on the end of a carpet. I had the sensitivity at 25 and it was very stable but i cant not believe the freaking depth!! :surprised:

To those of you who were curious about how Safari bench tested as compared to the XT-705. Without quoting any figures I would say if you were to replace the stock coil with the 10.5" DD M or HF coil, the XT-705 would match the Safari. With the stock coil it won't and remember this was just a bench test, not an in ground depth test...

My X-70 air tests almost exactly the same as my X-705 in air tests with the stock coil.

Both machines go deeper then my air tests in the real world. Mild soil and freshwater beach.

Getting silver dimes at 11" deep strong signal, correct target ID #'s in the sand!

I couldn't believe it, but I keep on going back to the same spot with the same success.

In the field MAYBE the 705 goes slightly deeper than my 70. Only had the 705 for 4 weeks(the 70 for 1 year) so I'm not sure yet.

I do love both machines!

Good Hunting

Denny

It's interesting to note just how much ground conditions must affect the depth we get with our detectors. In my ground which apparently is bad, I'm only getting about 60% of the depth in ground that my XT-70 bench tests out to. Realize that mild soil and fresh water beaches would give much better results.

I know you just got the Safari but how do you like it and compare it to the 70 or 705.......

My x-terra 305 is in the ballpark in those air test and it only cost me around $200.

I'd rate the Safari for just what it is, as being the next detector above that of the XT-70 (don't have the 705). I honestly believe the XT-705 would give a Safari a run for its money depth wise, but have to believe that where the Safari has it over the XT-70 (705) is in target unmasking due to its use of FBS. So far I'm not finding coins any deeper than what the XT-70 would have, but the Safari with the 11" coil is pulling a few coins (including a no date wheat) out of where last year the XT with the 6" DD HF coil wasn't finding any at all. I can't wait to try a smaller coil on the Safari. What's best about the Safari? It's simplicity of use and not needing to worry about it being properly ground balanced. Do I plan on getting rid of my XT-70, not a chance!

I've been wondering if I spent too much on a machine, just to hunt for meteorites. I don't regret spending the extra $$ on the 70...it does a LOT of other stuff. But if I could pick up a 305 cheap???........ Don't know if I'd buy IT, or a different coil for my 70......

As far as i know you need a detector that can find gold "prospecting detector". So you need a HF coil and only the 705 or 70 in x-terra line has that option.... someone else please jump in here and correct me if i am wrong....

Oops...forgot that the 30/305 can only use the MF coils.
Thanks for reminding me.

Still.....MF on tot lots......

If you go to the kellyco site and check out the coils, it will tell you which coil is made for what detector.

Sorry! I thought i may have been wrong.... You can use the HF coil on the 305 it just does not have a prospecting mode but does that matter when it comes to meteorites? Someone please jump in! :rage:
