An Exercise in Reactivity Tonight

CT Todd

Well-known member
Some bits and pieces, KG II, Spectacles part, Tombacs and Colonials. Working an old site done with CTXs couple of times by a couple of us. Came in today with the Deus cranked up the Reactivity to 4 and went right in the nail bed of this old colonial homesite in a hay field . With my normal program and the Reactivity way up I could hear the individual nails as I passed over them at the right swing speed. The Deus is a monster in the iron.

You are right on that Todd. Congrats on the recovery.

I always use my deep program and adjust it based on the site I'm hunting that day. I'll list it here.

XP Deus settings V4
CTTodd Program
General relic and coin hunting in the USA

Use these settings as your start point and then adjust as needed for the site you are on that day.

Sensitivity 93 never below 85
Frequency 8
TX Power 3 if things stay stable
Disc 6.5
Silencer 0
Reactivity 2
Ground Balance Tracking To start and keep an eye on it. Move to manual at the setting the machine has picked after you get a reading.
Iron Volume 3
Audio Reasponce 4 I'm not worried about determining target depth based on faintness of the sound. I'd rather hear the target for sure and then dig it.
5 Tones with these breaks
120/6.5 120/30 648/70 800/97 120/99
Ground Notch 70-90

Audio breaks and tones are personal preference....but how you set them up can help you. I set mine as 5 tone. This makes the first tone from 0-6.5 automatically because my discrimination is set to 6.5
I leave my iron volume at 3 so that I CAN hear the iron in that range. It's a big help to Know when you're coming into an area of past activity. I have the same tone set then from 6.5 up to 30 because I've found that most everything I have ever dug in the USA (and cared about) has been above 30.
My mid tone then starts at 31 and goes up to 70 with my max tone from 71 up to 97. The last tone is Back to 120 for 98-99 and is there to quiet things down. Less Chirps.

You should be watching your swing speed as it relates to the Reactivity setting you have set.
Low reactivity setting is good for deep seeking and higher setting is better in the trash.
Adjust on the go for conditions.

You need a test garden. If you don't know what your unit is telling you how can you hunt your best.

Todd,
According to what I've read here on the forums, Gary Blackwell refers to different filters on different preset programs. (no written proof as of yet)
V2, V3.2 and V4.? filters on the different programs.
So my question is which preset program do you start out with to setup your Deep program?
Thanks for you settings.

I read that too. I don't know about the "filters" I start with the Deep program only because it's close to my settings. I change it back to the Horseshoe theres just more information there.

The XY screen. I have done a lot of testing with this screen and what I find is that it locks up very nicely on coins. The problem I have with it is that it shows bad target for everything else. I like relics. If you hunt the XY screen I really do feel that you will miss out on a lot of targets that you would have been glad to have.

Great post, thanks for the tips.

Thanks Todd,
I agree with you on the XY screen.
