An Interesting Find

Nuggatory

Hi people.

Sorry I haven't posted for so long. All sorts of dramas intervening.

Anyway, they are not important. The important thing is, I was able to get out and do some detecting with my XT-70 a few weeks ago at one of the local beaches here in Sydney, Australia.

It's called Clovelly Beach, and is an excellent place to go snorkelling as it is very protected and there used to be a big Blue Groper in residence for years, until some idiot speared it.

So I found the usual assortment of coins and (mostly) rubbish, but one interesting thing I found was smack bang in the middle of the beach.

Not the sort of thing you find laying around on Australian beaches every day. These are the sorts of things that really make detecting enjoyable for me. I love how this pastime always throws up something different.

Happy hunting, everyone.

P.S. I Googled this and apparently these coins were withdrawn from circulation in July 2010. I guess if I wait a couple of hundred years it might be worth something :)

nice find there nuggatory. Sydney eh? Lots of goodies in them beaches over there. I'm up at North Queensland. Say - are you on the Aussie MD forum (kimbuctwo)?

Hi Nuggatory. Beautiful spot. Interesting coin...shame about the Blue Groper...there's always an idiot on hand ready to do the wrong thing! I'll know not to visit Clovelly beach if I ever get the chance to go to Sydney with my detector. Visited Bondi a couple of times several years ago..you could set your watch on the time that the detecorists hit the beach. I was wondering if there was some place I might have to go to get a ticket.lol. HH

I know what you mean, Furious T. The guy who speared the groper probably wasn't a local and may not have known about Big Blue, but I thought they were protected. It really does make me wonder what sort of legacy we are leaving for our kids.
I deliberately haven't ventured down to Bondi for exactly the reason you mentioned. Maybe one day I will, (or night ;)) but for now I'm happy running around the lesser known beaches. Clovelly will be by no means hunted out, I'm sure :). I did find it a bit difficult, as the beach seems to have a man-made rock base (at least under the dry sand) and a few of them were giving off false signals.

Thanks Beale & Kiwi-jim. Now, if only I can pull out some old Spanish coins (i.e. Holey Dollars)

Snoopy36, love your videos. They have inspired me to think about doing the same for my next digs, but mine will definitely not be as exciting :) No, I'm not a member there, but I heard you mention it in one of your videos and I will check it out as soon as I can.

Happy hunting, everyone.
