An interesting letter from Paul Harvey...

Paul Harvey Writes:

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better.

I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches. I really would.

I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated.

I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car.
And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.

It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep.

I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.

I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him.

When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him/her.

I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.

On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your Mom.

If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one.

I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.

When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head.

I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy\girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like.

May you skin your knee clim bing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.

I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it. And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend.

I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandma/Grandpa and go fishing with your Uncle.

May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays.

I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Hannukah/Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand.

These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.

Written with a pen. Sealed with a kiss. I'm here for you. And if I die before you do, I'll go to heaven and wait for you.

And I pray that those who read this and do not know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior, that they do so before they die. In Jesus name.Amen.

Very sensible letter and I always like to read what Paul Harvey has to say......He is godly wise and has common sense! I think eventually this will come true and take the younger ones back to hard times and having to help work around the house and do things to bring in money for the family to survive. Yes, what goes around comes around and with an ultra liberal in office now, who will look good for a while but then watch out, for he will show his true colors and who he really is! Yes, Paul Harvey, may just get his wishes answered!

Got a call today from Jay Seckalow and the muslims are overtaking the rule in the UN and now more Christians are being persecuted and killed than ever before in the muslim nations and I predict that will also be over here sooner than we may even think! It is already for babies and the innocent who aren't able to take care of themselves! The Bible prophesizes this is what will happen and I believe it is in our generation when the world will turn upside down! Like the Boy and Girl Scouts.....be prepared and stay with Jesus!

God Bless!

My Child hood was that story .. Them days in America is long gone some where -- some how--- We have lost our ability to slow down ---Maybe it's part of a judgment from God or just part of the end times . All I know for sure is I miss them day's -- Graw

like being snowed in and making ice cream from the snow. that was the best ice cream i have ever tasted. although i dont know if it really qualifies as ice cream. anyways...i think we all do miss the simpler times.

HI dobbie! I sure do also, for the simpler things in life without all the worries of not doing what our gov't leaders say was a lot better and no TV or less of it and good stories on the radio like Sky King, The Shadow Knows, Helen Trent and so on! Used to do my ironing with flat irons heated on the kitchen stove while listening to them on Saturdays! Cliff and I had the farm and bottom land between the fields and the creek to play and a huge sand pile washed ashore by the big floods we had! Sometimes the sand was also washed away until it was renewed for us to play in and also went wading and swimming in the summer times! Hard work on a farm, but glad we were raised on one.....just wish our dad would have been more understanding and kinder to us as children, but the trials of life have brought me closer to Jesus and full of love for Him and others!

It seems the years are passing faster and faster....don't know it it does because of getting older or maybe the world is too busy now days to keep up with the Jones, neighbors, with what they have! Two has to work to make a living and have the better things in their homes and garages! The Bible does say people will increase in knowledge and be running to and fro and they sure are! Those unsaved and not leaning on or trusting in Jesus don't have the sweet peace of our Savior's love and strength like we who love and serve Him, faithfully, do!

Keep fellowshipping and studying with your women's group and be happy....Jesus, hopefully, will be catching the saints of God up unto Him soon to be forever with Him! So, I say, Save those who will be saved and come quickly, Lord Jesus! Amen!

God Bless!

Yeah, that kind of ice cream is the BEST. Here in Alabama it's called "snow cream." I don't know about where you are, but we are able to buy Snow Cream (that's the name of it at the grocery store too) flavored ice cream. It has the same texture as the real snow cream too. We seldom get snow here in Alabama anymore. When I was growing up we had snow fairly often in the winter, even if it was only 1-6 inches and lasted only a few hours to a day or so. But now it almost never snows here.

Lisa (in Alabama)

Well, Lisa, you just might get some snow this winter and it has been predicted that it will be colder than we've usually been having for several years and it could reach down as far as Alabama! Cliff and I had snow cream too when we were still at home on the farm! I made some for my kids when my ex and I were in Maplewood and Jefferson County, but I don't think they really cared about it! When you don't have much as kids, everything we did get seemed to taste better! :)

God Bless!
