"An X50 is no Explorer II" - what does that mean?

What is the difference, excluding price? Reason I ask is I'm considering buying one or the other. Determining factor is not so much the learning curve (I have the time and inclination) but depth and trash separation. I am not considering buying both but need to make a choice.
