Analog meter VS digital readout

Are the metered detectors better able to see subtle differences in targets than the digital id machines? I was kind of thinking that with the analog meter you should be able to see slight differences in target id as opposed to the digital readouts that may lump a 34-36 into one category. For example if you were hunting an old site that had a lot of empty brass or other trash items and you knew they hit at 38 on the analog meter but nickles hit at 39-40 the digital may just put those numbers in one area but with the analog you could see the slight difference. Yes, no? Thanks.

All of the reasons plus some that you listed is why I love my XL Pro analog detector. I prefer the analog meter over the digital myself and find it more accurate over all than any digital detector that I have used. Don't get me wrong a guy can learn the digital meter pretty well with time. Whites makes a darn good digital meter, but the analog needle is way better for the subtle differences in different types of targets that fall close together in the VDI number range on the meter. I would say my XL Pro is the best TID detector Whites has ever maid. I also own the M6 ( a great little detector ) and have owned the MXT, XLT as well as the DFX, all great detectors but my favorite is still the XL Pro.

Take Care,
Bill G
