Analog Question

it was one of the best. Especially considering the VLF mode was without discrimination capabilities. Only the TR motion mode discriminated. I dug lots of old coins back in the 80's with my 15kHz Groundhog. HH Randy

I really like some of the eighties retro machines and have used many different analogue and digital detectors over the last 20 odd years. I have gone back to the eighty's now with my "time machines", my all time favourites for making great finds are as follows . Garrett model cx 3 which although is not strictly analogue it is a sort of hybrid this is a fantastic detector and underated by many but will sniff jewelry out easy jewelry missed by digital detectors good coin shooter too.. The compass x100 challenger is another superb detector i really like and can out perform modern detectors on many sites. Tecnetics mark 1 is really good looks fantastic in red and sniffs coins out easily on trashy sites with its 7.5 inch coil. I can tell what i am about to dig before I even dig it in 90% of cases, superb and now i am after a back up mark 1 for spares so that i can keep this one going .i think after comparing many detectors that analogue detectors are as good as digital easy..

Garrett used a specially wound coil at that period that allowed a degree of rejection in the VLF all metal mode. Think it was called 'Dual discriminating' and was the stock 7.5" co-planer supplied with every machine.
Did work as a ferrous/non ferrous indicator.
The upgraded Groundhog with the ADS mode change offered more sensitivity and greater battery life. Within a few months an option of having a switch fitted to allow the machine to be run at the same sensitivity as the original P.B. Groundhog was offered so not all improvements were for the good.
