Andy A question...........

Do you by chance have any Deus unit sales numbers say for the last 18 months for the United States? And if you don't, can you get them. I would be very curious to see what they are.

Out sold the CTX in England

Sorry but unlike car companies, detector companies hold actual sales numbers pretty close . . . . . niche market and unless you are a comnpany like Minelab's parent company Codan which is publically traded, you won't find the sales numbers readily available. Suffice it to say that XP has doubled the size of their manufacturing complex for good reason . . . . and it's not to build up a lot of inventory :cheers:

In Europe and the UK, the Deus along with other XP models have overtaken Minelab in terms of units sold and the number you see at rallies.

Andy it is nice to see the US dropping the ball on sales it maybe the only way they will start to understand our needs. I remember when you dropped Minelab (if memory serves me right) and backed the Deus. And now look at how many of us use the machine and have read your book...So you have to stay on top of things you have to look forward and not backward and that is what you did.

Not sure what you meant by "the US dropping the ball on sales it maybe the only way they will start to understand our needs." but XP has in fact listened to the US market which while growing, is not the main market for their products especially since the full line is not available in the US. The number of units sold has grown exponentially as the word has gotten out as to how it performs in the field and that is the main driver worldwide in terms of the Deus's popularity.

As far as my past / present / future relationship with MInelab, most of that is between me and Minelab. I have never been someone that is brand loyal to the point of being closed minded but in terms of Minelab technology, the BBS and then FBS circuitry raised the bar for all manufacturers. Unfortunately, time waits for no man as they say and the 1999 FBS technology got a tad long in the tooth and new technology was released. In the case of XP, the Deus focused on recovering targets from high trash sites and coupled this with wireless and weight reduction. Going up to a 5.3 pound unit for many people was simply not an option regardless of how well it performed.

There are always new designs on the drawing board and as they come to reality, I will be seeing how they compare to what is out there and if the performance warrants a switch, I'm there . . . . . it's about the finds and not the brand in my eyes.

I did not drop Minelab - I still have a number of Minelab units and they still bring home the finds . . . . . and there is no perfect detector - if there was all the other companies would be out of business :)

I have a question for you..I was hunting today in an area with lots of nails all my Deus did was sound like a machine gun and it was hitting the nail as a higher tone. I had my disc set at 6.5 and I was digging up nails on all my holes. I had my TX power on 1 reactivity on three sens at 85-90 silenver at -1 my ground was not hot so GB was on 90. How do you hunt that type of area? Then I went to a train depot and same thing but with trash and nails the machine was hitting on everything....Any idea of how to hunt those types of places??

Where I would start . . . .

DISC --> 10
IRON VOL --> 0
SILENCER --> 0
REACTIVITY --> 2 (bump to 3 if trash is real bad or slow sweep speed down)
GB --> Site dependent . . . not sure why you left it at 90 if the ground was not bad . . . . do you mean the bar on the right or the number on the screen?
TX PWR --> Are the targets shallow, a setting of 2 should do the trick

The one thing you did not mention is what frequency you were running . . . . . . hopefully 8 or 12

Let me know if this answers your question

Andy

Try raising your disc a little. Usually 6.8 will take care of most nails. But if they are big it may not, so go add a little more disc. You can also increase your silencer from -1 to 0. Check your swing speed. Sometimes going a little too fast will make them sound off some. Or you can get creative and leave disc at 0, and run your notch up to say 10 and try. Just remember at 0 disc, the horseshoe don't work properly.

I read if the bar on the right is not showing any bad ground it's empty then leave it on 90 but if that is not the way to do it and I should GB by pumping then that is not a problem..The freq is set to 12..thanks
