Hi. I would like to know if you can tell me what the depth difference is between the new coil and the Wot 15"?

Careful Andy,
This may be a 'Trap'. <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">

The WOT is designed to provide considerably more ground coverage than the stock coil and additional detection depth. It is not the coil you would use every day unless you hunted beaches or wide open areas exclusivley.
On the other hand, if you want a coil that can replace the stock coil, weighs less, is better balanced and gives a bit more detection depth, then this is what the Platypus was intended to do. It's a good general purpose coil.
Remember, there's more to selecting a coil than simply detection depth . . . . things like:
- Ground coverage (more is not desireable in high trash)
- Weight
- Balance
- Target separation
- Pinpointing
Based on your typical hunt sites, select those that are more important to you and use that as the criteria to select a new coil.

This coil is a DD PRO elliptical, measuring 11 1/2 X 8 1/2 inches. The DD with the PRO designation is a new coil electronics design that is a COILTEK innovation. We have been using the PRO design in the GP gold coils with outstanding results.
The coil is completely waterproof, and weighs only 20 ounces. We are even working on getting that weight down a bit, as the production model will not be as thick in the middle.
Right now, with any luck it looks as if we may have the first bunch of production coils in the first week of March.
The results of field tests in Australia have been great.
We will have to see what our American experts say!
Here's a picture of the prototype.

Andy,
You mentioned being able to sweep a bit faster with the Platypus but what about overlapping sweeps? How much overlap do you generally use with a 10" coil? What I am getting at is, does the Platypus have a smaller tighter "sweet spot" that gives better seperation but requires more overlap compared to similar size round coils?
I have used "5X10" elliptics on other machines and like their seperation but feel they give up some depth compared to round DD's. The 8.5" x 11.5" size of the Platypus puts it in a modified elliptic category (the width is 81% of the length vs the 5X10 coils where the width is 50% of the length.) I like that!
Thanks...
Tom

that should read 74% on the ratio of the width to length not 81.

I weighed mine on a digital scale I use to measure resins prior to mixing. Holding the coil cable it weighed 19 ounces, with the cable 21. There was some dirt on the coil though so most likely it weighs between 20 and 21 ounces. Not sure what the cover weighs.
