after re-reading iron mask in andys book and reading about the tones on the f75 forum it made me take another look at tones onthe se.i put on stock coil and tried two deep targets (dimes) in normal the target would not read..set my gain at five and response to long.in came that sweet sound.made me super happy. the deeper coin sounds better than the shallower coin.then played with iron mask and sensitivity and don't have that part down real good, but higher sens did do better there.i think there must be more trash at the shallower coin. they are at 8'' and9''. just play with and be afraid to experiment. low 70's and cloudy here today.sorry you guys up north are socked in,just keep readin.hh

ellis, we havent been if very few places the past 7 years or so we couldnt wear shorts. Tried something different this year... stay home in the winter. Well monday the wind chill factor here will be -15. Needless to say we will be heading south after christmas. May or may not be more trash affecting the shallow targets. Sometimes its larger deeper iron that affects those shallow targets. I like the way the Explorer is a pretty forgiving machine... you can tweak for your conditions, not loose a lot of depth, but can tell when its making a difference. Everyone hunts differently, for me i like the gain at 9 with no modualtion to the deep targets. I move slowly in trash and do look at the screen a lot. Sensitivity seems to be a personal preference as well... some like auto others full power manual what ever their ears can stand. Its all about the ability to pick out those iffy signals and how hard you want to work at it. I deffently like the way the explorer reacts to deep targets. Around that 8" range they seem very clear. I tend to hunt in normal, except when in say an open area then i like pitch hold. The detector seems to react faster to deep pitch changes. Normal does seem to chop up the sounds and may miss some targets. Fast recovery helps some. Enjoy the sun.
