Another Deus question...

If a guy is getting a Deus for super fast target separation then why wouldn't he want a small coil? Is a 9" coil the smallest there is? Many places I would want to use a Deus on are the kind of places where I've used my G2 small coil (5") to get between the iron and it has performed amazingly compared to the stock coil. Why is there no small coil for the Deus yet to give the best separation possible? Or is there and I haven't seen it?
Neal

When I got good with the Minelab Explorer I thought the 8" coil was all I needed for separation. Then I tried the 5" coil Sunray makes and by golly it sound off on hundreds of targets that the 8" would not.
Same with the Tek G2, I though it was soooo amaaaazingly fast in separating targets that I would NEVER need anything smaller than the stock coil. Guess what. The 5" coil finds even more. More than I would have ever dreamed could have been missed by the G2 with stock coil.
Why wouldn't it be the same with the Deus?

A Deus coil require not only the windings inside but also the battery and the radio electronics inside it as well, space would be the problem in such a small coil housing, with say a 5'' normal coil all you have is the windings but that is not the case with the Deus.

My feelings are the deus 9 inch coil is so tight as is and very fast and can become so fast that it would be too much. I think if they put on a small coil that maybe and I say maybe a lot of hunters wouldover porgram the machine and it would not work as well as a smaller coil..Now I have taken my g2 and the small coil and gone over nails and could not pickup and good targets then I took the deus and went over the same area with the nine inch coil and dug a few buttons and one coin and a token. Before I dug went over with the G2 and could not hear the good targets just the iron. Of cours the newest software made some big changes in the machine. I think the 9 inch works like a small coil. And if they were to make a smaller coil I bet they would add a software update...

there is a member here who builds his own coils, he has a 7" and several others, so smaller coils are possible.

I got a 9 and 11 inch coil, I sue both, honestly, They are pretty close in performance (for me in my area)...I think you will find the 9 will be better than you think.....Deus is nothing like other machines, it just out performs....IMO

The 9" is truly astounding in those heavily trashed sites. It is amazing just how many good old coins it will hit at shallow to moderate depths that many other machines ignore even running as small as 5" coils . With the Deus at say 6 disc setting the ground will come alive with more targets than you ever dreamed were present running most other machines and yet the audio is so good once learned you can pick the good out of the barrage of trashy targets !

I contacted XP a short time ago & inquired about any additional coils for the Deus that they would be coming out with.----They stated that they are going to be coming out with a 5 X 10" DD in the future (next year).

If this is true I'm sure a software update would be included as well...can't imagine the separation and sensitivity from a 5 X 10 coil versus the 9-inch :surprised:

Now if they will just offer a solid coil cover for it we will have a great nail infested relic site coil with no snags . " Pun intended"

^^^Stop by a marina and snitch a 18" square piece of shrinkwrap (used for storing boats)

...put plastic on table, set coil on plastic, gather @ shaft mount and shrink w/hair dryer (or heat gun)

or get a lace on shower cap

= instant soid coil bottom; no hang upps in the woods....hth
