Hi all,
Went back to the my regular hunting spot today with the intention of only staying for an hour or so
well 4 hours later this is the result,3 sixpence's ,1 shilling, and another halfcrown unfortunatly I damaged
this one with my trowel. A few dollars, couple of keys and and bits.....ohh yeah and a live 243 round thats
the 3rd live bullet in 4 months, sure have to wonder how they get there.Sorry I havn't cleaned them up yet.

Am I right in assuming the pre-decimal coins are silver?

Great hunt! Congrats on the wide variety of finds. Love those old keys. We refer to them as skeleton keys up here. Do you folks call them "skeleton keys" down there? HH Randy

Jim, very nice finds! That racetrack is a beauty. Are you digging medium to low tones? That's the range you could expect to find half sovereigns. With all the half Crowns you've found, I'm surprised you haven't unearthed a half sovereign yet.

Digger, I cant speak for NZ, but in Aus a skeleton key was the term used for a key which would open numerous doors...ie the part of the key which manipulated the lock was hollowed out (so it was a skeleton of the orignals) so that it could open a variety of locks....I'm speaking of keys about 4" to 6" long (like gaoler's/jailer's keys). Hope this helps..I dont have one to take a photo (but my photos are pretty lousy anyway)
