Another Hunt With The New SE and Another Success

I have to qualify "Success", as we hit a couple of farm fields that were very unproductive. One was barren and the other had a house bulldozed in it.

My buddy Darren and his dad took me to some bean fields in North Carolina. All we knew was they had been hunted before. We hit the first field for two hours...they with a CZ-70 and a Sovereign and me with the SE. We found a good bit of trash. The ONLY coin found was with the SE and it appears to be an 1839 Matron Head Large Cent. We went to another field and repeated but with a lot more trash. We all found some junk. I found an old copper or brass ring...looks like a wedding band. Darren got a '40 wheatie and I got a '41 wheatie and a '19 wheatie. We worked very hard for the little that was there but I was happy to get into the 1800's today with the LC, despite the tough spot. We've had better hunts, but it was a nice day and good to get out there.

Some pics:

My first good signal of the day...00-28 and a SWEET SOUND!

Knew right away it was an LC, but it's ROUGH...

I think you can see the resemblance. We all thought it was 1819 in the field but at home it looks more like 1839. Gotta use your imagination a bit...this thing has seen better days!

Darren's Dad, on the hunt...he's found 7 LC's with his CZ...an LC HOUND!

Happy Hunting

I have yet to find a Large Cent. Maybe I need to get to some bean fields. I hear that they usually sound off lound and clear. How deep was it?

Bob

Of course there is no doubt that if you or pops had gone over it with either the CZ or the Sovereign, either would have found it. Just the luck of the draw. Amazing how devoid of targets it was out there. Somebody hit that bee-atch hard.
