Another Large Cent with the Vaquero

Just got back from NH where I had a great time visiting family, but got skunked both fishing and metal detecting. It was too early for the landlocked salmon (still too much ice) and the foundation I had permission to detect was not only pounded to death, but dug and sifted by bottle-seekers. After getting home and unpacking, I had time to run out to my new spot close to home and got my third large cent with the Vaquero. It's an 1822 Coronet. Was out away from the foundation where there wasn't much iron trash so I had the Vaq supertuned and sensitivity just short of maxed out. It was hot enough where it was chattering a little. The disc was set one notch above iron. The large cent was ridiculously deep and under a rock and a bunch of roots, but still sounded off as loud as a clad quarter at the park :detecting:

Great feeling to have some success after being shut out. I have hit on those large 1 cent pieces with the my Vaquero. Rather than super tune I prefer to hunt in all metal mode by pressing the pin point button and then releasing it once I have a target. This method makes for a fast transition to discrimination mode and gives the best depth and sensitivity and stability. All metal is not so good in a real junky site with stock coil.
Last fall I switched to 5X10 DD elliptical for the V and I really like the coverage and target separation and it is a lighter than the stock coil. Now it can get into tight spots and thickets without getting the brush caught in the spokes of the coil.
Congrats on the big penny!

Nice root you had to work around. I carry a Swiss Army knife "Hiker" with a saw blade to cut through roots if needed.
