Another near YANKEE hunt.

Well-known member
As I opened the garage door to load my detector and carry bag into my S U V, I was welcomed by a yankee winter wonderland. A couple inches, no big deal, so loaded up and drove out to one of my hunting fields. They looked about the same as I was confronted with when stepping outside a little earlier, so decided to give it a shot. I only lasted about an hour as my knee pad kept building up with snow and leaking through to my pants, long johns and knee. I did manage, though, 2 clad dimes, a 46 wheat cent, 77 and 80 Memorials and a silver looking cross. There are no markings and doesn't clean up as silver would. So, not silver. It was 22 degrees when I started out and the high today here is 33. Into the 49's tomorrow, so will see. Nice and sunny, so maybe this yankee winter wonderland will be gone soon. I said, "another near yankee hunt," as I am able to dig with no problem. Know many of you can't, even if you didn't have a couple feet of snow. HH jim tn

A man has do do whats he has to do .....you never know until you start to swing whats in the ground ready to see the light of day....hh.......Dan

And I thought I had it rough with 41

41 is Bliss weather
41 is a heat wave
41 ......................................... is A Dream right now.

LOL............

Snow is a nice insulator. I've seen many an early season snow or late season snow where the temperatures drop and the ground is very diggable, as long as it was not frozen before it snowed. I'm looking forward to an early thaw, although we are about 10 degrees below normal right now and expect to be like that for the next week.

Thanks for posting. Cabin fever is in full swing!

I lived 5 winters in the UP of Michigan........I know what y'all are going through. However, you certainly have some great summers.

I hope to go when my machine gets back.

Nice going, I hunted on New Years Day, with snow on the ground- the top inch or two where frozen, and I had to chisel through, but that was it for my season- a bunch of clad but fun to be out there. Got a lot of good sites lined up for spring. CO

At least in the SOUTH, your YANKEE WONDERLAND will MELT A WHOLE LOT F-A-S-T-E-R than MINE!! This YANKEE
don't like SNOW WONDERLANDS Period!! For us, the WONDERLANDS that come out of the SOUTH, usually KICK OUR AS%!!
For you SOUTHERN BOYS, the WONDERLANDS that come out of the NORTH, have been KICK'EN YOUR AS%ES!! I guess
if we want to look at it from the CIVIL WAR Angle, or as you guys refer to it, "WAR OF NORTHERN AGGRESSION", the WAR IS
BACK-ON!! HH, Les Robinson

I guess I am still a YANKEE at heart myself, except when it comes to the northern winters. No longer want any part of that stuff. Yes, some of those flags are still flown and can be seen still in the back windows of some pick ups. HH jim tn

don't blame ya jim!..gets really "nasty" here from time to time, but we all know spring's on it's way
