As I stated in my whatzit post - and then answered - I hunted really seriously in the early -mid 1980's with a Bounty Hunter Red Baron, which I still have - and it still works. I quit from about 1987 to now - other than helping friends find survey stakes or looking for lost metal objects. Since I am now retired, I picked up a Eastern/western treasures magazine at the store and after reading about technical advances, thought I would jump back in. Despite the advances that have been made, the laws of physics do not change, and a pull tab, gold ring and nickel all seem to ring up about the same.
I have had my new F70 for over a week and have yet to venture out other than some brief trips to the yard to sweep over known clad and silver coins, 14k rings and 18k rings, taking notes on the characteristics and numbers associated with each as well as the sounds associated with them. I was really sold on the 11DD coil so I got that coil + the 10" elliptical coils. Should I "learn" with the elliptical first or plunge into the DD to start? Since it has been too cold, frozen and rainy to detect, I have read the manual, but that being said, it appears the presets and instructions apply to the standard elliptical coil and may not be the best for the DD.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I am in Western PA (Beaver County) and have always been pretty diligent in ground balancing since our soils here vary from lightly mineralized to hopeless when steel mill slag has been used for fill.
Thanks in advance - I will keep you posted on progress and do my best to share as I learn.
