Another question for the EX II users.....

I have an opportunity to buy a "like new", one year old EX II. Should I buy it, with the older technology, or buy a brand new one with the 2nd generation electronics and a couple a hundred dollars difference? Do you think that there's that much of a difference?

In my opinion, there is nothing like taking a new machine out for it's very first run. I guess it is like driving a new car for the first time. Then there is the waranty to consider. Either way have a ball and good hunting.

I didn' know there was a change in the explorer II. I know there was in the EXII and the Explorer XS. Am I missing something here. Did the upgrade the Explorer II?

As far as i know there has been no changes from the first XS II to the one that are made now other than the rechargeable battery is 8 single cells now in the alkaline pack and has a charger that will charge all 8 at one time.
Now on the XS there was several different changes depending on when it was built.

In the middle of the magazine, page 37, right side, the add reads.....

"FAST, accurate detecting with the Explorer II's 2nd Generation Software"

That leads me to believe that there was a "1st Generation Software" somewhere and I was wondering if this only pertains to this years models or is this some marketing trick. Anything you guys can shed light on will be appreciated.

Perhaps the add means the 2nd generation of software for the Explorer as a class of MD's - with the XS being the first and EXII being the second.

What this is - as stated in previous message - the original Explorer was the 1st generation the Explorer II is the 2nd generation - this is not an upgrade to the EXII software.

Here is the text from Minelab's website......

POWERFULLY ACCURATE
Multiple frequencies operating simultaneously sends and receives much more information to the Explorer II than a standard 1 or 2 frequency VLF detector. This information is then processed by the Explorer II's NEW 2nd Generation software to provide the world's most accurate discrimination . That means you don't have to waste time digging trash! The Explorer ll's microprocessor eliminates the bad effects on depth "ground conditions" may cause.
