another question on goldquest

My friend Randy tells me that there are modifications available for the goldquest ss. Can anyone tell me what those modifications are and who does them and what the costs are? Thanks.

Hi Ray,
There are no regular modifications that I know of, or have approved, for the Goldquest SS. Some customers have done their own modifications. Reg Sniff for example has modified a Beachscan to be the same spec as a Goldquest, and also added a DD coil. Tony Shere in Australia has waterproofed his Goldquest and is getting good results.
Competent individuals are free to experiment as they wish and I welcome the feedback that I get from such people both on the forum and by email. However, at this point in time, there are no performance upgrades for this machine.

Hi Eric,
Sorry for replying so late but I've been out of town this weekend. I guess I misinterpreted what Randy had told me about any modifications for this detector. Thanks for the clarification.
By the way, I just have one more question. I am actually planning on getting the detector sooner than expected, and was curious to know how well the 11" coil pinpoints. I imagine it isn't much of a problem when it comes to jewelry, but since I plan on using this machine mainly as a nugget detector I figure pinpointing might be a bit more difficult for the larger coil on account of the odd shapes and sizes of nuggets. Although, when I had my minelab XT with 11" coil, pinpointing wasn't all that difficult.
Any thoughts or tips that you can give? Appreciate your time in answering my questions, but I'm a newbie to PI detectors and can sure use any advice.

Hi Ray,
Pinpointing with the Goldquest is very precise, even on small targets. The only time that it could be difficult is when you have a very tiny target on the surface. Then you would get a stronger signal at the edges of the coil than in the centre. You may even think there are two targets as each edge of the coil passes over it. Raising the coil a couple of inches will usually bring the signal back to the centre.
Eric.
