Back with another haul from the past weekend. Let's get started.
Saturday Morning, Tim, Dan and I headed out in search for more lost treasure. We hunted a few different Parks with some nice oldies found in them.
One of the Parks we stopped at seemed like it only had old coins on one side of it for some reason, which Tim was lucky to bump into. I was near and started to find a couple Wheats in the teens so I started working this area as well. Dan was off hunting various other spots in the Park with only a few Wheats to show for but at least he was out and detecting again he said. As for Tim, he got into a spot that had multiple Wheats, a Barber Dime, and 2 Merc's I believe. I ended up finding a few Wheats, 2 Indian Heads...one dated 1879 and that Foreign Coin with the 2 holes in it. It's made of Silver and was probably part of a bracelet at one time. It's about the size of a Half Dime and read like a Wheatie....27 Conduct. Didn't expect that and was a nice surprise to add to the collection.
At another Park later in the day, I was the lucky one to find the area where the goodies were still located. After Tim and Dan had wandered around the other parts of the Park, they started heading my way. Tim asked if I had found anything yet....since he hadn't found even a Wheatie. I told him and Dan to start hunting in the area I was because I was finding quite a few Wheats and had just dug a Barber Dime with an Indian Head with it in the same hole. They started working the area and Dan got a couple Wheats but no Silver. Tim on the other hand scuzzed out and got a worn 09-s Barber Dime and a few Wheats as well as an Indian Head and a nice 14 Buffalo Nickel.
Towards the end of Saturday, we happened onto a block size Park that was in a pretty good sized town but it seemed like it had been dug up before just at the look of the landscape. We decided to try it and we did manage a few coins from here as well. Dan only picked up a Wheatie or 2....it just wasn't his day for major finds or Silver but I told him that Sunday will be different and he will have Silver since we were headed back to the Fairgrounds where I got the 4 Walkers the weekend before. Anyways, I ended up pulling a few more Indian Heads and 2 more Wheats. Tim ended up popping out a 16 Merc, a few Wheats, a V-Nickel, another Buffalo and a War Nickel. We all had fun Saturday and we were all wondering what Sunday would yield for finds.
Sunday rolled up and around 8:00am we started for the Fairgrounds. I was first out of the car and told Tim and Dan I was going out to get another Half jokingly but the funny thing was that it actually happened within the first 5 minutes there. First target was a Wheatie and then came a couple Clad Coins. I got within about 40 feet from where the last Walker was found and got a nice loud signal that read 28 on Digital. I didn't think anything of it since some of the Clad is around the same Depth as the older coins so I proceeded to dig. Next thing I see is Big Silver. I picked it up and seen it was another Walker. I yelled over to Tim again who was about 100 feet or so by a building and yelled Walker! He couldn't believe it and just shook his head. Dan didn't know anything about me getting a Half until an hour or so later when I ran into him. Dan had just dug his first Silver.....a Merc and was very excited to break the ice. I showed him the Half and he said he wanted to find one now. Unfortunately, no more Halves were found but Dan did squeak out a Silver Quarter which was only the second one now found in this Fairgrounds. I hunted more around the area where the Half came from and only found more Clad with a few Wheats and a Silver Rosie but I am sure there is more Halves since the area is just too big to hunt so maybe next time.
I then told Dan we should go find Tim since I thought maybe he snuck off to a Park due to not seeing him for the entire time after the Half was found. We got into the car and started heading for the exit when we seen Tim hunting the entrance. I asked if he had been finding anything and he said he had found 5 Silver Dimes consisting of Merc's and Rosie's along with some Wheaties as well. We then decided to try that area as well with Dan only getting a few more Wheats. Tim ended up popping out 2 or 3 more Dimes and some Wheats. I got a Merc and only about 8 Wheats or so but as we were getting ready to head to a Park, I got a 30 on Digital but was faint due to a clump of mowed grass over the area. I kicked it out of the way and re-scanned the spot. It was still there so I dug a plug and then next thing I see is a Silver Quarter sticking out of the side of the hole. I pulled it out and seen it was a 51. I then told Tim I just got a Silver Quarter and he went on about he knew that I would get his Quarter he was looking for and that he knew he shouldn't have told us about him finding anything there. We tried for a few more minutes with only a few more Wheats found and went to try the Park.
At the Park, it was fairly dead with Tim finding a 64 Quarter just under the dirt within minutes. We thought it was going to be loaded but it wasn't. I ended up getting a Wheatie and a Merc. Dan didn't find anything but Clad and this would be the last time he hunted on Sunday. Dan and Tim tied one on Saturday Night and none of us got to bed until around 3:00am due to them being silly and quite a site to see when they are like that. The Rum Dan had Saturday Night did him in a few hours later Sunday Morning so Dan was hurting and couldn't find it in himself to swing his detector so he watched the remaining time of the hunt.
We then decided around 2:00pm to start working our way back home. We did stop off here and there at other spots and I was mostly the lucky one making the finds in the end but Tim did get a few more Wheats and another Merc or 2 to bring his total for Silver to 19. I ended up pulling up 2 Buffalo Nickels, another Silver Quarter, a few more Dimes, more Wheats and an Indian Head. All in all, it was a very fun hunt again and I just hope that on Dan's next weekend off, that I can bring him along to hopefully get him finding a lot more Silver and a lot less Rum. Now for the totals of what I ended up getting on Saturday & Sunday.
For Silver, I ended up with 16 which consisted of 1 Walking Liberty Half Dollar dated 43, 2 Washington Quarters dated 40 and 51-d, 1 Barber Dime (Super Nice) dated 11, 8 Mercury Dimes dated 18-d,23,35,36,42,44,(2)45, 3 Roosevelt Dimes dated 46-d,47-d,63-d and 1 Foreign Coin dated 44 and has 10 Cents on the reverse. For Nickels, I dug 2 Buffalo's dated 18 and 28-d. Injuns consisted of 10 of them and they were dated 79,90,97,99,03,(3)06 and (2) 07. For Wheaties, I dug 68 of them and they were dated a No Date,09,10,11,12,13,16-s,(2)17,(4)18,18-d,(4)19,(2)20,20-s,23,26-s,(2)28,28-d,32-d,34,35,35-d,36,36-d,37,37-d,38-d,(2)40,40-s,41,41-d,42,42-d,(2)44,(2)44-d,(2)44-s,(2)45,46,(2)46-d,47-d,50-d,51-d,52-d,(3)53-d,54-d,(2)55-d,(2)56-d,(2)57-d and 58-d. Misc. finds included 2 small Padlocks, some type of pin with holes, an old Hat Pin, Kids Ring, a play Jack, copper Heart, and an Aluminum Tag with 43 on it. Hope you enjoyed yet another of my posts and thanks for looking. Just remember.....in order to find the oldies, you must be positive in thought on your hunts, do your research, and of course have fun and if your not finding much of anything, move to the next site. Thanks again and BEST OF LUCK AND HH TO YOU ALL!
