Another silver with the Safari!

Ray in WA

New member
This time it's a 1911 Barber dime!!

Went to an old spot today where the dirt had been scraped twice, and this beauty was stuck in a dirt clod on top of the ground. I knew it was a coin right off the bat just by its tone.

This is my second silver found with the Safari, and both times I had it in conductive tones. I keep forgetting to cross save before I start detecting so I can hear what silver sounds like in ferrous tones while its still in the dirt. Also got a couple wheats, a '25 and '39.

way to go !! How deep was it, do you remeber the soil conditions ? Going out today and again tommorow hope to find one of those !! Again, nice find Ray !!

Thanks folks!

ronald, it was in a dirt clod about three inches thick, which was lying on top of the ground to the side of the scraped area. So always check those spots where they scrape old dirt away. One of the wheaties was about 4" down in the middle of the scraped area.

That was a nice looking dime, way to go.I am still reading my manual on the
safari but I will get out there and use it when ever it decides to stop raining for
a few days...

Got out for about a half hour this morning, at a spot where I had previously found two Wash. state tax tokens from 1935, and found a nice buffalo nickel down 6" with the same date. I thought about cleaning it with Lime Away but I like how the green patina patches look on it.

Normally nickels come in solid on my detector at +13, but this one came in at +13 to +14 and then jumped all around between +12 to +18, depending upon which way I swung my coil. The +13/14 value generally forces me to dig even though the signal got iffy.

great finds... the more I use the Safari, the more I like it... while I like the E-TRAC, I love :cheekkiss:the simplicity of the Safari...
I have been using an 8" coil and finding some coins that I missed with other machines... working the coil slower than normal and investigating "iffy" signals...got 4 wheats and a 16 merc the other day in part of a yard that I had "wore out" with brand %&%^...all around 8" or so... Richard
