ANY HINTS FOR MY NEW SEA HUNTER MARK II

got it for x-mas.:hot: i could use any info i can get.

Great machine that goes deeeeep! Congrats! I usually hunt with mine in the discrete trash elimination mode because it's alot more stable than the standard trash elimination mode. I'll keep the discrimination low (around zero, one, mabe two) unless I'm in an area with an abundance of pulltabs. Then I'll crank up the discrete trash elimintion until it knocks out the pulltabs, but still picks up my wedding band. You'll lose alot of depth like that and still pick up iron pretty deep, but won't be plagued by the pulltabs. However, it's best to use as little elimination as possible because you could miss out on some good finds. Gold is heavy and will be deep unless recently lost. The advantage of having a pulse induction unit is the depth being better than VLF. You'll be finding all the gold that was passed over by people using VLF machines.
Oh yeah, and I switch over to standard trash elimination to pinpoint because the signal is much stronger.
AND that 10"x14" mono coil is definitely worth getting. It's lightweight and gets incredible depth. You'll be diggin' tiny bits of foil at nearly two feet! However, the discrete trash elimination doesn't work as well with the 10"x14" mono as it does with the 8" mono when it comes to knockin' out pulltabs and keepin' the gold. Just dig everything and get out there into the surf/wading where ther is less trash and more treasure.:detecting: Best of luck to ya'!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

P.S.
Get a big long handled sand scoop.;)

I run my SeaHunter at Std Trash Elimination and set the discrimination at zero. I don't want to miss any gold/silver as it reads too close to pull tabs IMHO. You can kind of tell the difference between iron and other targets as the sound of iron is more gradual as you scan across the target while other metal objects tend to have an abrupt change in tone. Also, you got to dig the faint signals since it might be something good. And keep digging and practice to tell the difference in signals.

It finds things deep because last night I was out at the beach and I was finding targets at about 18" with the standard coil. I've got the big coil too -- I like to use it in areas where there isn't much trash though (i.e. - way out from shore). Hope my viewpoint helps!

If you hunt in the water, and especially freshwater lakes, detect further out, starting at about waist level, where a lot of rings tend too fall off, and there is less trash. If it is a Little on the trashy side, maybe dig only the faintest signals, hopefully some rings missed by single frequency detectors.

The other guys covered the Mark II beautifully!
