any info on my new PI detector

Hello all, I just ordered a new detector to fool around with. Hopefully it'll find objects deeper than I want to dig.:detecting: It's an SSP-2100 which is sold by folks in NV, Chicago and england. These are made by detech from what I can tell... same folks that make the coils. Since I've never even seen one of these, send along what you know about them to help me out. This'll be a whole new deal to learn. thanks ! -=john=-

Hi everyone.... no one has responded, so I will report. I did get the machine out and use it in normal soils and clay. Under these conditions the smaller coils were so-so as expected, but the 40" coil was a different beast. This one has the magnetometer & PI. Comparing against a Whites 6000 and Nautilus DMCIIB-10" I learned what to expect of various signals. And finally some big-wide-deep signals were found. I had a hole 5ft x 3ft x 2 ft deep
going..... signal still strong and in the hole.

The Nautilus couldn't get any signal at all. I figured I had another 3 foot to go and it was almost dark so I filled it back in. I'll go back when I get more time.

I hope it's a cannonball, but it might be the end of a broken post hole auger or some such. We have found broken off metal fence posts like this.

So what is the final report on this and what was in the hole??

Hi! well I took the unit to the lowlands of Va. for a few days and ran the 18" coil and the 40" coil. Either would find things very deep. I dug for relics with the 18" coil until it about killed me one day. The soil is sandy but it'll wear you out digging deep signals. I was mostly getting shell frags.

I drug the 40" coil all over a friend's field along the Appomatox River where it had been shelled by the Confederates. The farm family had a case of shells they had found. (see photo) Even though I tried for hours I was unable to find another shell. I did dig lots of big iron at depth with Ferous ID (red light) by the magnetometer. So the PI Disc really works. Here I wanted iron, but you could easily null the audio if you wanted to reject iron.

I will go back to that hole soon, I hope. :detecting: No telling whats down there. One thing about this machine that I have never had to deal with before is getting a signal that requires the 18" coil to pinpoint. It means you almost have to haul 3 detectors or coils just to dig a deep hole.

more as I learn it -=john=-
