went detecting tonite for a short while found some clad and some wheaties 1913 1915 1941 1942 1944 and this i think its chinese any one read it don
 
Its Japanese... Chinese coins have a square in the middle and Japanese have a circle. That is 5 Yen. The lower condensed set of symbols is the date. Couldn't tell you what the date is though.

Hey Don,
The three characters upper left mean Japan, Then the date is the fifty-fourth of year of Hirohito's reign(1926-1989) So yours would be 1979. There are a couple of Web sites that show you how to do this.
I found a year six (1931) coin this spring. The year of Chinese study paid off.
