Thus far I've only got one silver dime with the S-5. Then again, it's not like I use it all that much as I can't seem to leave the 12x10 for too long. Still, a few days ago I threw the S-5 on and headed out to a tiny old picnic grove that I've pulled a lot of silver dimes out of in the past. This spot is loaded with nails, trash, hot rocks, and black sand. I figured the S-5 would not only see between the nails and trash better, but also might produce better signals since it would be seeing less black sand any minerals. I've found in the past with other machines that a small coil can give better IDs in a high mineral site like this and even show a bit better depth than what is possible with a larger coil. Worked the spot extensively looking for hidden coin signals and no dice. Really starting to wonder if the better seperation (doesn't really feel better left/right wise than the 12x10 anyway) isn't really going to produce results, where as the SEF is doing well enough to not bother with the small coil. I can't tell you how many targets right next to each other I've noticed with the SEF, yet I'm not really seeing a lot of close coins/trash with the S-5 to really feel like bothering with it anymore.
Mainly I'm looking for inspiration here. Have any of you guys found the S-5 or 5" Excelerator really got you some keepers that the stock 10" coil or SEF missed? I am impressed with the S-5's depth. Even in Auto it seems to be getting a good 7" or so deep, about max depth for any other machine in my soil using a standard 8 or 9" coil. That's pretty oustanding IMO.
