Any S-5 or 5" Excelerator Users Getting Results?

Thus far I've only got one silver dime with the S-5. Then again, it's not like I use it all that much as I can't seem to leave the 12x10 for too long. Still, a few days ago I threw the S-5 on and headed out to a tiny old picnic grove that I've pulled a lot of silver dimes out of in the past. This spot is loaded with nails, trash, hot rocks, and black sand. I figured the S-5 would not only see between the nails and trash better, but also might produce better signals since it would be seeing less black sand any minerals. I've found in the past with other machines that a small coil can give better IDs in a high mineral site like this and even show a bit better depth than what is possible with a larger coil. Worked the spot extensively looking for hidden coin signals and no dice. Really starting to wonder if the better seperation (doesn't really feel better left/right wise than the 12x10 anyway) isn't really going to produce results, where as the SEF is doing well enough to not bother with the small coil. I can't tell you how many targets right next to each other I've noticed with the SEF, yet I'm not really seeing a lot of close coins/trash with the S-5 to really feel like bothering with it anymore.

Mainly I'm looking for inspiration here. Have any of you guys found the S-5 or 5" Excelerator really got you some keepers that the stock 10" coil or SEF missed? I am impressed with the S-5's depth. Even in Auto it seems to be getting a good 7" or so deep, about max depth for any other machine in my soil using a standard 8 or 9" coil. That's pretty oustanding IMO.

It's easier to get close to walls, and pays for itself in the woods in snarly brush ......10 x 12 seperates fine, but harder to get into some area's with .....The 5" is also great for getting in between tree roots were you can't fit the larger coils .... Jim

Hey Critterhunter. I have both the S-5 (older, white one) and the Excellerator 5" and I love them both. I really don't use the Excellerator though, since I got the S-5. This past weekend I stripped my GT of it's meter and S-1 probe and put on the S-5. I only had about a half hour to detect my brother's pounded small backyard. This yard has produced a lot of coins in the past, but we've pounded it hard. Anyway, I scored two wheaties and a sterling silver flat charm that was folded in half. I also agree with Jim that this coil gets close to obstacles. The S-5 is a keeper! The 5" Excellerator is even smaller than the S-5, making it ideal for the tightest spots. I think it may be the smallest coil available for the Sovereign. As you can imagine, these coils are a breeze to pin point with. Hope my two cents helps. HH. Matt

Thanks for the input. I'm just not really seeing any better left/right seperation than I get with my 12x10. The S-5 does get excellent depth even in auto (about 7" or so), so that's impressive. Yea, of course it's going to get closer to fences and such and I think that might be the speciality I use this little coil for for now on. I've got a few old coin sites that have fences spanning the area so I could use it for that, but in terms of unmasking ability over the 12x10 I need to do some comparison tests to see what gives. A while back I did some S-5 comparisons to masked targets to the 10" Tornado (wrote an article on it in this forum), and the S-5 did show better unmasking ability to that coil, but I'm not so sure it will show much more ability than the 12x10 in terms of left/right separation.

I was looking for a really "SHARP" knife like seperation of targets like you explained in your threads ..... Either your coil is different than mine, or it runs differently on a GT than it does the original Soverign , but I get good seperation , but not knife like ..... I would say that it seperates about the same as my S-5 ,but no better .....STILL a great coil ...It runs a LOT more quiet than the stock coil , and I think it may go a bit deeper ....I need to spend more time with it ..... I think that it ID's a lot better than the stock coil too ....... I would really like to do more testing with the ConSearch coil ....I want to see how deep it goes !!....This thing picks up a LOT of targets ...It doesn't miss ANYTHING !!.... It's not a razors edge when it comes to seperation , but it will surely let you know when there's ANYTHING under it .... Not a sharp pinpointer, but SURELY alerts you when there is a target under it !!...... I've heard mention that it is a great beginners coil since it hit's the way it does, and I believe that because it almost tends to exagerate the target when it hits .... It GROWLS !!.....Jim
