Any thoughts on the original Explorer 8 inch coil..

Dan-Pa.

Appreciate some feedback from members who have used this coil...As all Explorers are nose heavy the less weight would be a plus relative the ergonomics...now about performance?

Dan..........it's a little lighter, than some bigger coils, but not much.. It's a thicker coil, and feels pretty heavy on the end after a few hours (OR LESS)...

It does work better in trash I have found.

yes its just a bit lighter, but less covering ground I use original 1050 for 100% of time and do not know when I will use it again. good luck and take coil cover if you use 1050 its weight 69g!

It is really lightweight compared to the ML 8". I think it is less than 16 oz. I use mine all of the time. It punches down deep too. No, I do not have a vested interest in Sun Ray. I just like their products. If you are buying an 8" be sure to check out the Stealth X-8. IMHO it is worth paying more for.

I have both. Haven't used my minelab 8" coil in quite awhile. Main reason is that the Sunray is lighter. As far as performace I feel that they are just about the same. If you get the minelab you'll like it, and if you get the sunray you'll like it more :detecting: You can't go wrong with either one.

Its a very good coil Dan !! actual size is 7.25 inches and I used it just about every hunt I did when I had my explorer....I have a sunray x-8 ( brand new, still in the plastic package ) which hasn't been tried yet on the safari.. the original 8 goes plenty deep and is very good in trashy areas also... If ya can get a great deal on one.......go for it.

Its enroute to compliment my modded XS for trashy parks...Original modded unit which I did not do felt a little nose heavy and should help..Re-modding with a prizm rod instead of a radio shack rod and using a 1266 battery box instead of a radio shack box so feel this one will have even better ergonomics because of rod lengths but Steve Southern an excellent modder sure gave me a good blueprint. Hard to believe now down to one unit and an explorer should serve me well in various hunting situations even though my time in field is limited..

I have always checked out the forum but never registered and posted so i figured its time to do so. I don't as often as I would like but when I do the small minelab coil is what i use most of the time. I always watch all th finds posted here and on the etrac forum and they are amazing to say the least.
