Any tricks for using the Beach Hunter 300...

if you cannot ground balance it? I received one, took it to the beach and couldn't ground balance it at all. I tried several places from high, dry sand to low wet sand and in between with no luck. I tried hunting in all metal mode for a little while anyway but it was noisy and when it did hit targets it often gave false I.D. lights on the target. Trying it in disc mode was even more noisy. I was digging bobbie pins and fish hooks that were giving good, solid yellow and green lights. I thought the west coast was where the problems were but I guess we have our share of black sand here too. Anyway, I've sent it back and hope that they will let me upgrade to the Excal without having to pay outrageous re-stocking fees as I do believe there is more wrong with this unit than just the ground balancing issue. I have never had these kinds of problems with my Sov GT. I purrs like a kitten and doesn't skip a beat no matter where you go. --Jerry

There has to be some issue with that one..where was the sensitivity set at? I use mine in Black and purple sand all the time no problems great depth.

Sensitivity was set a preset but also adjusted down some to see if that would help. No cigar. The unit got quiet as it neared the ground and turning the ground control all the way as far as it would go wouldn't change it. I'm sure I used the correct procedure because I took instructions with me from a manual I downloaded on the net. I could still tell when there was a target but not sure about depth because there weren't any too deep. But I.D thing has me bothered as well as the inability to ground balance. --Jerry

I also had a BH ID ran smooth as a babys butt till..........! The guys are right, there is something wrong with it. Sounds to me like It has leaked, when mine leaked due to it had the old type black seal which harded because it's solid rubber, the new seals are orange, and are hollow and seal much much better. It was impossible to ground balance. After I got it back from whites, with a new board, and cleaned up with new seal, in all metal I had to keep turning down the threshold, it would get louder and louder, what a bummer. this went on for a week till I finally sold it as is. I wasn't going to spend another $75.00 shipping again. If you get one with no issues, it Is one heck of a machine. It will find the Gold and Silver and the lights are very accurate. so good luck with yours. Gene

Thanks, Gene. It has the orange seal but if it has ever leaked it did so with somebody else. I never took it into the water, not even the coil. I really wanted it to work well because I really like the idea of the lights as well as the tones. Oh well, it's been sent back and they will check it out and decide whether there's a problem with it and whether I have to pay re-stocking fees or not. I sure hope not. I should have gone with the Excal to start with because I love my Sov GT.

Hi Thinkin2 , You will like the Excal II if you get one. Yesterday I found a very small round gold Piece half the size of a BB at four inches. as you can see from my posts it finds the Gold and Silver real good. Gene
