Anybody have CZ3D Problems?

I bought a CZ3D a month ago, and it stopped working after about 1 hr use. It started falsing like crazy even in the air away from any metal, and then several minutes later, no sounds. Not even if I waved a coin in fron of it. That was it. Sent it back, and got a new one. It has been working great for about 10 hrs, and then one day I pulled it out and it started doing the same thing with all the falsing on the ground and in mid air over my head. It was out in the car all day, and it was 80 deg or so, so I waited til morning to try it again, but the same thing. I called Fisher, and they had no advice, so I decided to try it one more time before sending it in for repair, and it seems to be working now. I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there who has had similar experiences? I am very pleased with the performance of this machine, but because it is a new model, I wonder if there is a design issue that needs to be dealt with, or if it was just a fluke that I got 2 faulty detectors in a row. The odds seem so very small. Anyway, I appreciate your comments, and a good day to all. Randy

Randy,
I had that happen once. I have hunted the particular site it happened at several times before with the 3D. Just one day I pulled it out it went bonkers. I couldn't get it too stop chirping and popping. I took it back to the truck and grab my Minelab. When I got it back out later in the day it was fine... kinda strange if you ask me. I've never had any problems with it since.
On a side note, my buddies wife bought a 3D that wouldn't ground balance. I tried to gb in the same area my 3D would and it was a constant tone like metal was under the coil. I even hooked my 3D's coil up and it was the same problem. So, it was something wrong in the electronics or the electronic switch that controled the gb knob.
But, I have heard the same kinds of problem with the Minelab's I use. Explorer II were known for sometimes going flaky after about 2 hours of use. Go home let it 'cool' down and it would be fine. But, who only hunts for two hours? Not me. They have since fixed the problem. Any new model of detector's is bound to have problems. HH!

12 Dec 04. I bought a CZ-3D from KellyCo.com online...
It too worked sporadically for an hour or so. I couldn't get the settings worked out.
Finally, it went bonkers. Meter not reading, incessant screeching, as you described.
I contacted KellyCo... they said Sorry... Talk to Fisher. Bye Bye.
So far, since it was the weekend, I've sent an email to Fisher and am planning to call them tomorrow and try and get a New Box sent before Christmas...
There seems to be a bug in the Detector Ointment.
Hopefully, their reputation of standing behind their product will be accurate.

I have had this same problem a few times... The first time,,,I figured it was the bateries going dead, so I replaced them and it did quit. Had it out one other time with what should have been good bateries, and it did it again...It was pretty cold out, not sure if the cold zapped the life out of the newer bateries or what, but I had to quit hunting. After getting home, I tried it again and it worked ok again... Hopefully it was just the bateries, and not something with the 3D itself...
Good Luck, and let us know if you continue having problems...

Did same things, and i found out it was a combination of batteries and the interference where i was hunting, some type of electronic interference at certain times of the day, and the batteries had to be NEW, because mine always did it at same spot in the afternoon, other than that time and spot everything was fine, i had a ML Advantage, and a Tesoro Euro that did the same at the same spot

I had the same problems with my CZ3D.I sent it back to fisher twice before they got it fixed.

it was power line intereference. i just moved away from that spot and it was fine.
when it happens though, the detector just goes fricken nuts. it's kind of shocking when it happens.
but my explorer never did it at that same exact spot.

I had the exact same problems. I put fresh batteries in and it seemed ok, then I went to another spot and found the ground had to be set on 3 to balence it with the sensitivity on 1 and was still geting false signals till I finally went home for the day. I'm hoping that I don't have to send it for repair as I've only had it 3 weeks.
