Anybody own GTAX 550 and how is it?

Never having used one i'm curious how is it for the money any good. I'm partial to another brand of detector (which shall remain nameless) But I'm kind of interested in this model for its similar features any takers on this question

I've never owned one, but I have heard nothing but great things about them. Maybe do an online search for GTAX 550 reviews. You can't beat that price.:wiggle:
I think John used to swing one. Maybe he or someone else will chime in with some info.
It doesn't matter what brand you are partial to. We are all metal detector hobbyists and many of us use several different models.:detecting: Best of luck to you whichever machine you decide to get. Happy Hunting!:)

I've been using one for over a year now and am very happy with it. Use it for coins, relic, and beaches. I've picked up single coins over 8 inches deep and an axe head over 18 inches. I usually run Mode A as all metals and Mode B as a custom setting for coins and jewelery. That way you can go back and forth to check a questionable target quickly. Nice being able to notch out specific targets too. Love hearing that Belltone too.

If you upgraded to a GTP 1350 or a GTI 1500, you would have a detector that does what the 550 does and more PLUS, the ability to size targets.

It's a great little machine and loves rings. I have a field test on it at losttreasure.com if you want to check it out.

I have owned mine for a number of years, it is a nice coin / park and school ground machine and has decent depth. The graphic recovery time can be slower than the tones when you get into trashy areas. If you plan on detecting beaches then it is not what you are looking for, the sensativity needs to be turned way down when you get into the wet sand to eliminate false tones. It really depends on how much you want to spend and where you plan on doing most of your hunting.
