Anybody use a Vaquero for competition hunts?

Using stock coil. I'm going to Atlantic City (Minelabing) this weekend. Last year I used the AT-Pro and I know Sunday my Shoulder will be shot.
The Vaq is light weight and can swing alot longer it's just the fact that i might bump the knobs and have to ground balance often. It will be in the dry sand.

Most of the targets are pennies and not to deep, so settings probably won't matter much.

What do you think? Maybe should take sons Ace 250 since it's lighter than the pro and it's turn on and go.

If the Ace 250 is light, I'd take it. Turn on and go with a display is hard to beat when coin shooting.

I'd take the V in a heartbeat...set the GB before you start and even if you do by some chance bump it..it wont be that far outta wack

The super fast pinpointing even without using the pinpoint button will make it a pleasure to use.

You're not going to be going for deep stuff so you wont have to constantly worry about the GB being perfect
nor needing to super tune it.

The ID on the 250 will be a distraction.

Just my thoughts and Good Luck..oh but watch out for other V's and Whites M6's as you will get interference from them.

Your Vaquero can be a 'turn on and go' detector if you want it to be. Just set the ground balance a bit more positive for the area you mostly detect and leave it there. If you're worried about it getting moved, put a mark there so you can see it's where it's suppose to be. It will most likely be better ground balanced for your area that you detect than most so called 'turn on and go' detectors.

In this type of comp. hunt I would set my disc. just south of penny inclusion. This will be high disc., it will exclude all but pennies and clad. Hope that you have a great hunt.

If your worried about bumping your knobs , just go and get some small Orings and put them under your knobs , you will still be able to move them but they won't get knock out of adjustment easily . The V is a good everything machine ;-)

Tesoro says not to do this as it will wear out the pots. Maybe put a rain cover on it? Maybe that will stop them from being easily bumped.

You will be just fine with it I use it in Competion hunts all the time and have done very well with it

I guess one should listen to Tesoro in this regard, but on the other hand I've used O-rings under the knobs on my Toltec II sense it was new and it's still going strong. Then again I'm not one to mess with my settings very often. If it's a concern you could possibly use the O-rings just during the actual hunt then remove them afterwards.

For what it's worth I use the O-rings to apply only a slight drag on the knobs. Hence there not applying a strong upward pull on the pot shafts.

Works for me. HH

Good for hunts & the plus is it has switchable freq. switch to change the freq. slightly incase of interferance from other detectors (which is an issue in hunts).

Good Hunting.

I used mine and I found near the most coins collected.I also found 3 token for 2 silver rounds and a silver half. I also found a planted 10k gold junk ring with a $93 melt value. Besides that I drove MXT users crazy.
