Anyone ever use a scoop like this?

Looks ok if you wanna bend down all the time !
Would be better if it had a long handle?
Thanks for sharing
John

I've seen that scoop offered on ebay. It is made from a 5" pvc pipe. What bothers me is that it is designed for ease of manufacture and not necessarily for ease of use. I personally prefer the metal scoops.

Sorry - I should have been more clear. I'm not so much interested in this particular scoop, but rather in the fact that the holes are square, not circular like most of the scoops out there (see pics below). I've read that damp/wet sand will sift through the squares more easily. I've also read that flat-bottomed scoops are harder to use than angled ones. Would you guys agree?

For a fact, the square holes sift the sand faster than the round ones. They are especially great for dry sand hunting.

TN Girl,

Here are a couple pics of the beach scoop that I use. The long handle eliminates bending over which I don't do so well anymore. It sifts dry sand real good, but even though it has the square holes wet sand just doesn't sift well.

I think you'll find most who hunt the wet sand just scoop and fling and then pick out their target heres a link to one of the best!

the scoop max's is using is way heavier duty then the light dry sand scoop in the pictures.

hope this helps

Steve

the whole bottom of the scoop is made of wire mesh were the alum. scoop on the right only has about 30 holes that are drilled into the scoop
so more holes are faster at letting the sand thru wet or dry but the alum.scoop will last longer if you want one for both wet and dry i would get the alum. one
and drill a few more holes in it

I bought one, good for dry sand if you don't mind bending, but even a knee high metal one is much faster to use.

Forget about it for wet sand. I've never come across any hand scoop that's any good for wet.

bending down is good, keeps the beer barrel down to size:beers:
