Anyone ever use pea gravel in a tumbler for regular coins instead of aqarium gravel ??

Not new regular clad coins in a tumbler but instead how do you all clean "old valuable coins" where a scratch or any damage can ruin the value??
(I have a bunch of older crusty copper and stained silver coins laying around in need of cleaning. I have never found a gold coin but my biggest nugget is 79 grams.)
THANKS!!

A Brillo pad ( or piece of ) thrown into your tumbler also works wonders.
