Nope, I haven't tried one Brian. I'm like you in that I have this $#*&*$@# "need" to explore the virtues both plus and minus of most detectors, but I'm like what Mr. Bill commented on in that for $79 more, the Delta meets my preferences and needs better. And yes, I did buy the Delta and I'm glad I did. 
Now given what I've seen across the board with the three Ti-Teks that I have, I have no reason to think that the Alpha wouldn't be a stellar performer for the price point that it is in. I just tend to steer away from any ID detector that "speaks" segment VID only any more.
