Been looking at getting a new detector for awhile now and come tax time can go ahead and pick one up. Got it narrowed down to the F5 and T2 classic and was just curious on anyones first hand experiences with um. Leaning more towards the classic just by a tid bit but.... Any opinions? Thanks.

This is a copy of the email I sent to Fisher about some questions I had about the F5.See below comments in RED.

· What is the latest software update on the Fisher F5 and what year was that in? There have not been significant software changes on the F5, however there may be small Rev. changes to other components.

· How many years has the F5 been in production? This unit has been out approximately around 2008.

· How do I know when I order that I am getting the latest soft wear update? By the serial number, the serial number will let you know when it was manufactured.

· I see fisher has baseball caps. Do you have any bucket hats? At this time we do not.

Check posts by Mike Hillis for software revisions and his impressions on the changes it did to the F5. In view of his findings, the changes seem to be minimal in actual use. I have version 3 in mine and never used an earlier F5 so can't comment. Also, if you absolutely want the latest version when you buy it, be sure you ask your dealer beforehand to check the version they carry. On the F5, it's very easy to do.

The T2 is the Teknetics version of the F75. In fact I believe it is basically the same hardware just running different software. The Teknetics Omega is the Teknetics version of the F5. The T2 is really set up to be primarily a relic hunting machine which is why it has the expanded iron range and a smaller coin range. The F5 is setup more to be a general purpose coin shooter.

The T2 tends to chatter a lot (if it is setup right) while the F5 will be a quieter machine. In short the T2 will be a bit harder to use (if you run it hot) but will get you more depth and a faster recovery time.

Thank You! I will have the sales person check and give me the serial number so I can also check the manufacturing date.

Never used the T2 detector but I can say the f5 is definitely an excellent machine in all aspects, I've had my f5 for two years now and I bought it used from my brother wv62 and neither one of us had any problems. I'm running the 11" DD coil and in my opinion this is the best all around coil for the f5. Batteries are easy to replace and last forever, it requires two 9 volt batteries and they will go 40 hours plus.
