Anyone using the 3khz coil?

New member
I primarily coin hunt, anyone have any field use with this coil. I am finding some falsing on deeeeep iron, which is acceptable. I may get that signal bouncing around in the 30's, then during pinpoint it goes to minus 6, I have never found a coin. The web site says it gives improved iron discrimination. I have dug deep on some of initial 30 something readings that pinpoint with a negative, and have found old paint lids and other iron scrape. I don't want to miss deep silver!!!

I use it almost exclusively in open field situations such as farmsteads, and have not encountered the problems you are having. In a 4-tone all metal scenerio, I can hear interpret the sound of iron much more distinctly with the 3 kHz than the other freqs. I don't use the pinpoint mode on my X-70. I prefer to use the Prospecting mode which offers good pinpointing capability and a better opportunity for sizing the target. JMHO HH Randy

Hey Dave,

Which coil are you using now? I have the hi freq 10.5" DD on mine and the only iron it falses on is bottlecaps, those will sometimes ring in at 42 just like a quarter. No other iron problems though.
Im in Forked River, in Ocean County, where are you located?

You might try using the auto track feature and also make sure your sens isnt maxed out, back it down some and see if helps on those signals.
Also paint can lids are way to big of a signal compared to a coin signal, you might try sizing a target as well as using the audio and meter..
