Is when Minelab changed their Xterra chip so that the "Other" coils could not be used. Anyone figured out the serial #### range when the did this yet? Also wonder if you send in your Xterra for repairs if they add this new trick automaticly..........Mark

I have wondered if they do that whem you send it in also.

Since you own the machine, unless the repair requires replacing the part that contains the firmware they upgraded to, I would think that you could specifficly request that they do not perform the change.
If left to their own, who knows what they would automaticlly do?

What do you mean my new 705 willn't run the other minelab coils ????? I just purchased it

You're fine. All of the Minelab and Coiltek Coils for the Xterra series will work on your machine.

There's a certain Ukrainian manufacturer that has produced illegal coils. It was delt with through a firmware recognition tag in newer units that renders the pirated coils useless.

Delete my last post! Just forgot we're not allowed to talk about the pirate coils and so it should be until
Minelab and the Other coil maker maybe one day will cooperate.
