Aquasearch Question

Active member
Doing a lot of bench testing of my Aqua and still concerned about missing larger items at the lower delay settings. Seems to me that in air, depth on all test items is best at the lowest setting. I also see posts where the instruction is to keep the lowest delay possible and adjust the SAT until it smooths out--collaborating this setting recomendation. Is there a "median" setting? I have also heard it said that (delay)12:00 o'clock is the same operating range as a PI Pro but up this high I see greatly reduced depth, with small items all but knocked out, more so than a PI Pro.

I do not understand with changing the Pulse Delay that you are getting changing depth. The TX pulse should be the same in both cases. the difference in the Pulse Delay effects how small an object you can detect. I assume the Threshold is the same and that you are running at a whisper. The Sat control is determing how quick you recover back to normal Threshold setting and is mainly used to smooth signal to ground noise. Perhaps Mr Bill or Reg can shed some light and also it maybe your detector needs to be looked at and adjusted. Don

Hi Clive

Your unit is just fine. :)

Retarding the pulse delay will gradually decrease the sensitivity to small, lower conductive targets. It is most likely going to increase your sensitivity to different metals. One would have to experiment with this, but changing the pulse delay on a Goldquest/Aquasearch changes more than just the delay. You could re-tune the unit by adjusting the control to respond better to different metals.

It's going to be most responsive to gold jewelry in the 10uS. to 20uS. range.

As far as setting it to the 12 O'clock position for a 15uS. delay, at that point I would guess it's at about 30uS. to 35uS. pulse delay. Just retard it 1 to 2 marker points on the dial for 15uS.

Don't get too concerned about the PI Pro, there's nothing that can can be done to them to put it in the Aquasearch performance range. It's a nice operating unit now that they modified it, but ???? :)

Have a nice day
Bill

Hi Don

The pulse width does change along with the pulse delay on the Goldquest/Aquasearch. It doesn't on your Goldscan 4, but the circuit on the Goldquest/Aquasearch is nothing like the other Eric Foster units such as the Goldscan's or the Deepstar's.

You ever dug 58" LOL. There is possiblity. I had a modified CS6PI Eric designed detector that Reg helped me modify, one day in bedroom turned it on and it picked up the middium sized brass drawer handles across the room, must ghave been at least that far. I had a Sand Shark also and tried it with that and it wouldn't read it. Don

Well maybe, now that I got your attention. :)

My Deepstar will hit a top of a Campbell's soup can lid at 43"/44", using a 11" coil.

The lid of a mason jar is larger, so it should be able to be located deeper. Now they are just too many variables to accept this with certainty, but it should if conditions are right. This is still using the 11" coil. Going to a larger coil, say 15" would increase the depth a few inches.

When I first meet Eric, he & I went detecting on the beach. Eric brought a Goldscan 4 with him, me a long handle shovel.

Although this was some time ago, I still remember very clearly how deep I had to dig targets that day. Zinc penny's were in the 2' range, and at least that deep for pull tabs. :)

I said to him, I need to have me one of those units. It needs to have a power switch on it, because not everyone will need to dig that deep. One conversation lead to another, and born was the Aquastar.

Thanks for your reply Bill, that's exactly what I wanted to know--basically how high a setting is what is meant when they talk about the unit responding better to larger rings ata high setting.
Thanx, Clive
