Aquastar vs. Deepstar vs. CS-7

Dear Eric and everyone else:
I am looking for a serious saltwater beach and wading detector. I currently use a Sovereign XS2/WOT on the beach and a Sand Shark in the water. The Aquastar, Deepstar, and CS-7 cover a wide price range, so I would expect some significant differences in performance. The Sov/WOT is very good and if I could get something to find even deeper coins and jewelry I would really be impressed. I don't really need a waterproof detector, but I cringe at the thought of saltwater spray and splashes getting into a non waterproof (Deepstar) detector. I have already found a dealer who carries all three (Hi Mr. Bill!).
Thanks, John.

Hi John,
Not trying to answer for Eric, but I may be able to post you a little information. If you don

Hi John,
Mr Bill has covered most points regarding your question. I have made and sold Deepstars for about four years now and I have not had one which salt spray had got into. They are designed to be used right down to the waters edge in the worst of weather and the coil can be submerged to a foot or so. Obviously if there were waves coming in that might reach box height, it would be prudent to back off a bit.
Although I have not done a comparison, I am confident that the Deepstar with the 11in coil could outgun a Sovereign/ WOT for depth. For the ultimate, provided you are up to the digging, have our 15in coil with the Deepstar. There will shortly be another article in the UK Treasure Hunting magazine featuring this combination in the recovery of a 13th century coin hoard buried in the beach. The 11in coil was used initially, but on changing to the 15in, more coins were found at depths which nothing else could possibly reach.
Eric.

Dear Eric and Mr. Bill:
Thanks for the information. I also did a search of "Deepstar" and "Aquastar" on this forum and found a wealth of information that both of you posted in the past. I'm sure that you understand that for price of a Deepstar I want to be absolutely sure that it is what I want before I fork over the cash (it is!).
Thanks again, John.

Hi- Eric, I know this might sound like a daft question, but- is there available, a 15" inch coil and the 11" inch coil that are interchangable on the Aquastar, the same as on the Deepstar,??

Sorry for being late to the forum, I've been quite busy here and haven't been reading much (nor detecting much).
John, FYI, I do have a Sovereign/WOT combo and a Deepstar (as well as a SurfmasterPI). The Sov/WOT works really well as a beach machine. The WOT takes the Sov. from a pretty good beach detector to a Kick-butt beach killer. However, as good as the Sov/WOT combo is, it's no match for the Deepstar. The Deepstar finds smaller gold deeper. That's all you need to know <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">) The best test I've found for comparisons is to bury a nickel. The sov/WOT will find the nickel at up to about 8" or so. The Deepstar will go 12-15" on the same nickel. Since the nickel is close to the conductivity of gold it's a good test methinks.
Come on down to Santa Cruz sometime and we'll take the machines out and play a bit...as I mentioned in my email to you last night my schedule is pretty crammed over the next month or so, but the storms should start hitting us about then...
