Are there any coil Guru's out there????

I've just bought the Omega with the stock 10" Elliptical concentric coil. What benefit would there be in getting the 10" DD ?? Or maybe even the 11" DD ? How heavy is the larger 11" DD, would it make the detector nose heavy? And then to add even more complexity.........should I consider the 5" X 10" NEL DD coil? What benefits would that coil offer, or are they just junk? I shy away from the larger coils because i like to hunt about 6 to 8 hours per session. Small coils lack coverage so my question mainly pertains to the 10" to 11" ellipticals.......thanks for your opinions and suggestions.

Well, I am not a coil guru, but I have used most coils available for the Omega and I have found each have their place. When maximum depth is not paramount, my favorite is the 10" concentric, followed by the 5x10" DD. With this Omega I have I didn't get the 11" DD, but opted to get the NEL Hunter for field hunting and a little more depth.

The NEL coils are a good bit heavier then the Tek coils and the Hunter does make the Omega feel somewhat nose heavy. The NEL coils, though, seem to handle emi situations quite a bit better then the Omega ones. If you do hunt in trash, I highly recommend one of the smaller DD coils. The 5" DD is excellent in heavy trash. The 5x10" DD is close, however, and is a little deeper. HH jim tn

I had the NEL! (I wouldn't say it was junk, but I didn't find it something wonderful either. I sold mine)
I also sold the 10" concentric, I couldn't the depth that I get from the 11" DD, I sold the 10"
I've not tried the 10" DD but it would be the next interest for me.

I think I would for sure go with the Teknetics 10" DD before I would the NEL.

With the open frame 11" DD the detector doesn't seem out of balance and handles very well.
I did recently pick up the little round 5" DD coil, I've just not been able to try it out yet.

I dont own a Omega but i do use a NEL Sharpshooter on my T2,the 11'' stock coils work fine but lacks build quailty so when mine finally went to the great detecting grave yard in the sky i was not prepered to by another one,i feel the Sharpshooter coil albeit is just a tad smaller but i feel it makes up for in in other areas like handling EMI better, greater target seperation, good pinpointing and i feel and this is just me it makes the tones crisper and the TID No's alot more stables as well.

Build quality on the NEL coils is 1st class and one of things i really like and its only a small thing but it makes a massive difference is that the coil is mounted in the middle of the coil, the stock 11'' coil is rear mounted this in my mind makes it slightly nose heavy.

Of course i can only give my opinion based on my style of detecting and ground conditions over here in the UK.

I've used 5", sharp, 8" concentric, 10" concentric, 10" DD, sharpshooter, 11DD, Hunter, and Ultimate coils on Omegas.

My order of favorite to least favorite:

sharpshooter, 11" DD, 10" concentric, 10"DD, sharp, Hunter, 5", Ultimate, 8" concentric

The best one coil only would be sharpshooter or 10" concentric as long as your soil is mild.

The NEL coils are much higher quality built coils than OEM. Now having tried all brands of detectors FTP products build quality has to be dead last. :( Which sucks because the machines perform much better than toy build and feel they have.
