AT Gold 8.5 x 11 Coil

I have the standard 5 x 8 coil on my ATG and was wondering if anyone did a depth comparison from the 5 x 8 to the 8.5 x 11. I hunted a civil war encampment this weekend and was getting 7" to 8" tops in regular soil in an open field with the 5 x 8. (Got 3 - 3 ringers and a pistol bullet, need to research the caliber) Have any of you noticed a depth difference with the larger coil by any chance in your test gardens? Trying to decide if I can convince the Mrs. that a $160 investmest is much needed. :) Thanks.

Hi Greg -
Here's the link to a chart that John posted a while back. The larger coil should give you a little more depth and cover more ground for relic hunts in relatively clean ground like fields.

I get about three more inches in depth here in Texas ground with the Stock coil even though I like the small 5x8 also for tall grass and heavily wooded areas

update: that's not the right chart - maybe John will chime in, I thought there was a comparison chart of the two DD coils on the AT Pro, but can't find it. I think the larger coil can give you an extra inch or two in clean, mild soil conditions

I figure I am getting at least 2 more inches with the 11" coil. I dug a true 7 1/2- 8" deep Pro pin point measured wheat with the 11" yesterday in a small spot that was hunted at least twice with the 5x8 on my A T Pro and a 5x10 DD on an Omega. And, there was still nice tone remaining. The 5x8 won't hit a 8" silver dime in my test garden, but the 11" will hit the 9" deep one. HH jim tn

Thanks everyone for the input. This'll definitely help. HH!
