AT Pro :garrett: Some Due Silver:detecting:

When I arrived at the site where I was going to detect this morning I found the grass was too thick and was heavy with due, so I decided to scout around for another place to swing my coil. I finally found a what appeared to be a great place to detect but the glass was heavy with due as well. I figured what the heck, a little mud ain't going hurt nothing. Besides the AT Pro is a wiz to clean up, just spay it down with a garden hose. I set the AT Pro up with 35 on the iron discrimination, notched out foil, one bar down from the highest sensitivity, and was in the Pro Mode. Right off, I found a well worn Standing Liberty Quarter and a few really old Wheat Pennies (1909, 1940, 1919, 1911). The area I was searching was around 20' x 30'. I started my grid search going lengthwise and then width wise. I picked up several more good targets doing this, including a 1942 Washington Quarter, a Whitesox's Ring, and some kind of pendant. Even with a late start, I was in my vehicle at 7:32 headed home. I want save some for tomorrow.

That little 5 x 8 inch coil sure is a lot of fun to swing.

That's some sweet old silver, Tabman! The Memphis chapter is certainly doing some impressive dirt fishing! BTW, I took a quick look for that White Sox ring - didn't see that one on ebay, etsy, even google images. Just sayin', you might have a rarity there, so if you're going to 'pound it round' again, you might want to anneal it (heat to red-hot) first and go real slow. Even the plastic ones from 1960 are going for around $30. Nice find.

William thanks for the heads up on the White Sox ring. That sucker was my deepest find today at around 7 inches or so. It sounded really good and I just knew it was going to be another silver coin. No such luck, maybe the ring will turn out be worth something.

So y'all really like those dirt shots. That's good to know, because they sure are time consuming to take especially when it's wet and muddy.

I like the look of silver fresh from the ground. Those silver coins haven't seen the light of day for many decades. I wonder who dropped them and how it happened.

Thanks. I've looked and can't find anything on the ring. I can just see a little boy back in the day having something like that and playing baseball on a vacant lot with his pals.
