Some time ago I went on a rant about Garrett not giving us a better relic machine. Having led the Garrett Team on many GNRS events I saw the Garrett Team falling further behind. It's to early to tell but it appears they are moving in the right direction. They have made many of the improvements I had hoped for. Weight and balance is great. Simple and well built. More tones and user adjustable on the low end of the scale.
On to the test garden. My test garden has some tough red clay. I planted it using the MXT as a guide. The MXT is a good relic machine but doesn't like the red clay. The large artillery frag at 12" hit hard and acted like a non ferrous target like on the MXT. By switching to Pro iron audio it was no doubt large iron. The clad half 6" hit well, the MXT hit it well too but wouldn't get it any deeper. The AT Pro keep getting it even when raising the coil 6" off the ground. The .58 3ringer at 6" was an easy hit again. The 11" 3 ringer wasn't strong but a dig signal and the mxt couldn't see it at that depth. The button between 2 nails at 3" was a dig signal too. Button at 11" was a signal but not one I would dig.
This is a fast sweep machine. Needed a little faster swing than is normal for me but I'll learn to get the most from it. Only issue I see so far is better headphones. I like Grey Ghost and hope to adapt in order to use them on the AT Pro.
THANKS GARRETT I LIKE THIS ONE!
A note on the water proof advantage. At an organized hunt my machine was acting up and a friend loaned me an F75. The F75 was doing well but started freaking out. I thought "Oh crap" I have broken his machine. When I saw him later he said "don't worry about it, it's the drizzle, when it dries out it'll be fine".
Did I say I like this AT Pro.
